Mutant Machines

Last Saturday I went over to a local market to see if any of the stalls had any hidden gems - I came away with a little bundle of track and an early 80s Matchbox Superfast Pepsi Stocker and team van - all for under £10.  When I got home I noticed the stall holder had thrown into the bag a strange elongated crocodile type thing, made by Hot Wheels in 2014!

I thought it looked more like something my son (5) would like more than I would so we set up his 6 lane and ran it.  It was surprisingly fast downhill, beating a (albeit old and well played with by a non-gentle toddler!) Ferrari California amongst others of my sons faster cars.

Looking online they are really expensive - has anyone got any views on them?

Gimmicky novelty or secret weapon?

Secret weapon in my book, depending on the animal.

I'm not a fan of the style - like you said, looks more "kid" attractive than anything - but I've thrown several of those animal cars down a track and they are very speedy. I had one that looked like a shark and it flew. Very low profile and was a metal/metal build.

My bad...it wasn't metal/metal. Metal chassis though. I think it's some version of this one, Hammer Down.

I've got the croc rod from the Street Beasts 5 pack and that really goes.  But this was even more left field.  One of these:
