my first attempt at mold casting
Good afternoon all,
around May it was raining, so no working on the Dodge Dart, with welding and all,
so I started a diecast project. As many of y'all know, I have used the 195°F low temp diecast metal to add weight to my cars. 2 joust cars were crude molds on an existing body.

and angelic hammer
my casting mehod was very crude and required lots of cleanup (wasted material)
(scrap does not re-use very well, it melts poorly)
so I tried a different technique
made a master first of in this case a logo
wood and sifted play sand coarse
then took this stuff
bakey clay off of amazon

you can see a 1/4" thick aluminum plate
and the logo master

and if anyone is interested, the dart build is here

switching format a bit.

I am copying off my build thread on the mopar forum
so, to continue
according to the clay mfg cure temp was 265-275
took 20-40 minutes as I lowly snuck up on it, then 15 min at temp
added diecast to the hot mold
so, even though it's hard to see, it reproduced the master in great detail.
I had air voids from pressing it into the clay.
but the hot mold on the aluminum plate worked wonderful.
I am pretty sure a version of this method could be used to take plastic bottoms and make them metal
