Okay, so I just registered like 10 minutes ago. Before I was lost in the world of Customizing and modding Hot Wheels. First and for most, THIS IS AWESOME!!! I've always wondered about taking Hot Wheels apart and adding a "Unique" sense about them. But to actually mod them to race other people, mind blown! Now, on to the reason why I'm posting this.

I've always been curious about how to lower a Hot Wheels. I find (for my taste) that most Hot Wheels set up too high. I like the flush "Stance" look. Is their any DIY's or Tutorials that I'm missing?

I look forward to your answers and will hopefully be participating in Customizing, Modding and Racing. Thanks Again!

I've always been curious about how to lower a Hot Wheels.

That can be tricky because the axle is usually attached to the chassis and "pinched" to be held in place. You would have to un pinch it and put some...now that I think about it. It will depend on the Hot Wheel.

You can search customizing on the Redline Derby side and see the basics of how things come apart. There's a bunch of friendly people here who are plenty willing to help out.

Here's a good place to start.

Welcome, iBMikey!

I usually mod for speed, so I've never thought about lowering a car. Maybe if the base is not on the outside of the car in any way, maybe try drilling a bigger hole in the base and remove the interior. The base might slide down. Just superglue, etc. the base down. Just a wild guess on how to do it.

Welcome to Redline Derby, Mikey! Glad you found us and hope you have fun hanging out here. As I'm sure you've found already, there is a TON of info here on modding and customizing. Much of it is geared towards racing but it all starts with taking them apart.

And I hope you take photos of your mods and things to share here. We all love seeing what each other is doing to learn and get ideas. If you have any questions about Redline Derby, experience problems with the site or otherwise, just PM me or send a mail to werace@redlinederby.com

Wow... Feelin the love!! Thanks for the welcoming guys. But yea Model40Fan thats a general idea of what Im looking for. I will hopefully be buying some Hot Wheels today. Is there any tricks to trade as far as racing goes that I should look for? Thanks again for all the help. This is AWSOME!! Feel like a little kid again.

Racing.... there is no real formula for that one. It's mostly luck, and a small amount of science. Put some FTE wheels and graphite lube on a car and it might be top car, or a loser. It all depends.

welcome newbee, glad to have you aboard...
if a channelled car is what you want, get an [I CANDY] the base is zeed front and rear. the headers & their brackets will support the body of most early ford castings.... attatching the body has a bunch of different aproaches.. read the archives.

The more and more I read about Racing, the more I'm convinced to just stick to the basics. Custom paint, maybe decals (as I love Graphic Design ), etc. Any/ Everything I do will most likely be picture proven. Of course, I expect A LOT of mess ups. But we will see. Heading out to go some Hot Wheels soon!

Basically, to lower something...the interior is between the body and the chassis and sort of hold everything in place. The axles are attached to the chassis.

I guess optimally you just want to move the wheels up. If you un attached the wheels from the chassis, put some kind of spacer in there between the axle and the chassis. Something like that. You would have to make clearance for the wheels one way or another.

Otherwise I guess you would somehow have to move the body down.

Switching out the wheels might give the same effect depending on the car and wheels.

I've come to the conclusion there is more than one way to do it. So, just start taking things apart and try to figure things out. Once you get to more specific problems...there's plenty of folks here to offer advice.

I guess you shooting for something like this?
Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox
