Opinions on TCR track

Has anyone used old TCR track pieces for their diecast tracks?  It looks a lot cheaper for straights on Ebay.  Just wondering if anyone has used and what results are like.  Just seems like I'm going to have to spend a ton to get enough straights from NASCAR Crash sets.

I'd be interested in knowing, too.  I still have a bunch of that from when it was popular, and some of my cars, too.

if you're just looking for straights, I'd recommend using coroplast and cutting it to size

(First post here! Hello!)

I've got schemes with some TCR track, so I purchased a significant selection just before New Year - owing to lockdowns here in the UK though, it only arrived yesterday. But I thought I'd add my opinions here.

My collection of 1/64 is very slim at present, but I threw them on a piece of track to check a few things. Please pardon my lousy camera for these shots:

Now, if you have TCR track with side-walls (I believe some of the later Tyco track did away with these as the cars were more slot-based) then you can just get two vehicles side-by-side. The Mustang and Porsche at the rear of the pack are wide-bodied and actually wedge themselves in place!

The track pictured above is missing its 'power rails', but the cars do tend to follow the slots / rails-when-present in any case, which would limit the opportunity for overtaking and result in a single line of cars forming a train down the course.

In terms of straights, it would therefore be cheaper and more effective to use Coroplast or similar, as IndianaDiecastRacing mentioned above!

Additionally the corners that TCR tracks use are very wide (9inches across using the smallest option) and would mean that you'd have to devote a lot of real-estate to your raceway.

Let me know if you have any questions. I'll be continuing with my own TCR plans in any case...
