Discussion

I ordered a box of the new Snap Track and tomorrow I am going to stop at Target and get 2 of the below pictured item simply for the additional track connectors to Dollar Tree orange track.

let us know if it's there
for sure need more convertion connections

we will need to see "who" drags (the rails), but to start, viper was horrible

Narrow cars (wheel drag vs body)?

this track is nice because flat is flat.  a pure flat dragway would tell more.

was very fun to test and shoot

mattel thanks you...lol

Wider is a plus, price is realistic, I like the flexibility. Low speed was a fail, if I can get my hands on 15’-20’ of it I will dust off the white pine incline and go head to head with a dollar store lane. Good to see you again Doc.

Hey El Segundo, how about a reissue of a nice 50’ seamless track for us “mature” kids.

Well for a measly 12 bucks. I have to get in on this action and I have ordered that exact track creator set. I can use it to rebuild my drag strip again. It's on order and should arrive here on Monday.

I have just bought some of their new track for testing. The snap together is good so you don't have to go look for connectors all the time, however I used to be able to cut orange track to any length I wanted which made laying out tracks much easier.

Something I do like about the new snap fit connector though is that there is no creep in the joints like you can get with the orange track - where the connector starts to slip on the track pieces if you are running heavy cars or running a long time. Now they just need to make some half decent turns you can buy separately. All the pack turns work well but only with the layout pieces in the pack. The turns they sell separately have been garbage for years. They are often too narrow or even worse they put out one set of corners a few years ago where they had holes down the centree but they were so wide cars would often fall into them. like did no-one even try a test piece before spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on injection moulds????

Here's my quick test results - there is an issue with the adapters that's a no go

  • Good stuff. An adapt — alva1370
  • Being able to mix old track with new is a big plus. Curious about how much speed that bump can handle. — alva1370

The inexpensive packs at Target include 2 pieces of straight track, 1 piece of flexible track and 2 connectors - 1 male & 1 female - to connect to the Dollar Tree orange track.

  • the yellow one needed a butter knife to remove the orange for me — dr_dodge

  • Well...the new track won't attach to start gates and finish gate but the adaptors/connectors will be going the right direction and attach to Dollar Tree track coming off start gate and leading into finish gate. — Dutch_Clutch_Racing

well, I wanted a simple gate better than my fingers, while holding a camera...lol

when dollar tree sucked on castings, I buy the erector set kits, and the wood kits for the wood to kitbash.
got a bin of dozens of little kits for the bent brackets

drilled and cut on this stuff today.  WOW, it is tough!  clog a sharp jewelers blade quick (gums the teeth)
files and sands poorly, too. It leaves long strandy stuff.  coarser, the worse.
Sharp blade stuff, or good shears OK.
also seems very stress crack resistant, forgiving to drilling/counter sink work if sandwicked with a washer one size over the screw.  (aka #4 screw, #6 washer) and it draws down nicely.
Thats how the pivot mount is attached.  Wonder what plastic it is?
almost feels delron like, so shiney and gummy, but I built this simple launch

I spent most of Monday in a DIY fest fabricating a start gate and redoing lane 2 because this new track is directional as Dutch pointed out. Then rebuilding the entire track - overall its an improvement even if the start gate is a little clunky. It's some hillbilly tech at it's best

  • Very nice! — Dutch_Clutch_Racing
  • Hey Dutch! Yes, overall I’m happy with it. I think for strips like mine that are short or a strip that is maybe temporary that you’re gonna take up and down this new track I think would work well for that. Still doing a lot of testing to make sure I really trust that both lanes are Equivalent. — AbbyNormal
