Pinewood Derby Graphite
Hello all,
I didn't see an intro category so I decided to post about graphite. Real quick intro...my son and I have been racing in the garage since Xmas 2021. We have a Nascar type season and crown yearly champions. We have about a 50 foot (ever-changing) track but also do have a dragstrip too. Just recently, I've gotten into modifications (lubes, tire swaps, testing weights).
So before I get into what we've found with graphite, I wanted to thank everyone here. I see a lot of names of Youtube tutorials and howto videos and there was some great stuff there. Thank you all for the posts. Great stuff!
The first real testing we did was with graphite. We had an old tube that we used first and found minimal differences. Then I got a tube of graphite from Ace and it wasn't much better. Then I ordered Pinewood Graphite from reading on the boards here and watching Youtube. Wow, what a difference. The first car we tested went from a 1 car length loss, to a four car length win. We grabbed some of our older cars that have slowed down and WOW! What a difference. My son was so happy when his "Golden Air" (Lucid) was back to almost top seed and same with his Red Jag F type (2025's champion). Now he's insisting I lube up all his cars. He's 12 now so, of course I taught him to do it himself. I only have time for my cars, haha.
Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and thank you guys for youtube videos and great information here. Heck, maybe I'll start sending some cars to races!
