Racing-February 2011

February 12th saw the return of our Racing season. My sons had graduated from the rookie class as they had scored too many points the previous season and have to move up into the other divisions. This meant that they would be racing against more adults and seasoned racers/cars.

Up first is the biggest class, the kids class where kids 15 years and under get to enter the races. My sons entered a total of 12 cars and my youngest son earned a 4th place finish with our Diesel Boy. That equals one point for the season and one free dollar to spend on other cars there.

Up next was the rookie class and I decided to enter that this year. After many wins, my cars lost in the semi-final round. I expect to place in the top 4 in March. My top cars were a Cadillac V-16, Brit Speed, and the Black Ferrari Testarossa.
Next up was the Late Model division and my youngest son had the clear #1 car in the division, then one of our cars (F-Racer) upset the top car to get into the final race. The F-Racer made us proud by coming home in 2nd place and 6 points along with 6 free dollars. I took home 4th place in the race.

The next class was the Trucks class, where we dominated the class. We had a Ford F-150 that was just blowing the competition away. Then someone entered a Hot Wheels Train and no one was touching him. It then came down to the final race. We had the Ford F-150 and a Chevy Escalade. The Ford F-150 took off and never looked back. The Escalade came home 3rd and the train that looked unbeatable came home 4th. 10 points for one boy+$10 free dollars and 4 points+4 free dollars for my other son.

A new class was up next, the Muscle car class. Any muscle car from the 60s could be entered. We had just two cars entered. A 67 Camero and a 67 Firebird 400. Both were cruising through the class and the Firebird came up just sort at a chance in the final 4. The Camero made it in and I thought I had a good chance at winning it, but it came home 4th. Another point and another free dollar.

Super Stock was up next and we were looking forward to this class as our car that was the fastest car in the rookie class last year (Power Piston) was racing. He cruised through the class and came up short in the final race by getting 2nd place. 6 points for my oldest son and 6 free dollars.

The final race of the year was the faster than ever class which had been changed to allow just FTEs after 2007. In the past our FTE cars couldn’t even win a race. With the new rules, we were winning many races. My youngest son ended up getting 2nd place with a Corvette C6. Another 6 points and $6 free dollars.

The Ford F-150 goes to the garage until November when it will race for the overall car of the year. We brought home around 30 new cars that we bought there from vendors. We already have found some really fast cars that will make their debut in March.

A side note on the top cars in the Redline derby racing league. I bought the black Ferrari Testarossa. He was decent on my track and I didn’t know what to expect there. I entered him in the rookie class and he made it the race before the final 4. We also bought a 97 Ford F-150 that won two races before losing. The Ferrari F-40 will debut in May after my son’s 9th birthday as it’s a present I bought for him. There were two Ferrari F-40s in one division and they weren’t running near the front.

Thanks for this post Iowa! It's fun to hear about your local club races. I wish we had something like that here in Washington. Perhaps I should get something started. Who knows, it could grow into something big.

This is about a 40 minute drive for me and I have thought about starting one up in the town that I live in, but don't know if I am ready for the commitment just yet.

Our next race is this Saturday--I will post another update. We have some new entries that I have high hopes for. I picked up the Nitty Gritty Kitty from E-Bay and then we found four mainline cars that haven't lost yet in our testing--including the same Ford F-150 that is pictured above. All five will be matching up against each other Friday to see who is the best of this new group of cars that we have in a 16 car bracket race off.

Its a good place to be in as we are starting to have too many good racing cars to take each month and we have to pick and choose who gets left behind.
