Rookie Rally 2021

This will be third race I've sent in for (sent in for WRDC Truck rally, and failed to qualify for DIRS). Let's see if I'm improving. Finishing in top half of pack would be an improvement. :)
My entry for the Rookie Rally. Adding another Cadillac to the mix. I am an actual rookie - this will be my first event and I am really looking forward to it. Mailing it tomorrow. Good luck everyone!

Just a PSA that this week is the last week to get your cars in the mail for the race.
As long as your cars are in the mail this week, you're good - no need to overnight any cars (save your money!). I'm looking to do a entry preview next week, racing after 2/6. Lots of great looking cars in the field.
Pick-up today yielded 5 more entries. We're up to 21 cars! Great showing for the first RLD event of the year. Last pick-up will be next Monday and then a preview show. Updated entry roster here.
I'm also open to thoughts on how to format the race. With a field this big, I usually just do a standard bracket with byes as needed, but if anyone has an idea on how to make the racing more interesting, I'm all ears.
- Personally, i have to say i prefer timed runs listed by fastest times. Random seeding, single elimination leaves the possiblity of two fastest cars facing each other round one and the loser not advancing through possibly slower brackets. That being said; its always “your track, your rules”. Im just grateful for the opportunity!!! — CaShMoneyBoyS

- I'm anticipating a few more cars next week so maybe about 24 entries...thinking about doing a pool arrangement. Never done that before, so kind of interested to try it. Might take longer to get it all done but should be more interesting for racers. — redlinederby
- Pool round robin with top 2 making it to single elimination is really fun! Say you have 24 cars, that's 12 that make the finals. You could then fill 4 spots with highest scoring cars from any that didn't get an auto bid to finals. — pupulesurfer

Only 2 more entries came today: NJ Drive Racing & Dogtown Racing, which makes for a good solid entry field.
I'm thinking I'll try to the pool format where winners make a bracket. Downside to this format is just that it will take longer to race and produce. But if racer's aren't in a hurry to get the big finish, it definitely lends itself to more racing for all the cars. Given the rookie theme, I think it'll be nice.
I will hopefully have time this week to shoot a entry showcase with some commentary, and then I'll start racing this weekend and on. Given the pools, I'll try to post a couple videos a week until we're all done. Might take a few weeks but we'll give it a go.

- I was quite surprised to see a paint can! Pretty clever. Can only weighs 3oz. Roundness is a little bulky, needs a bigger shipping box. — redlinederby
- I work in a body shop painting cars for living and as I was building my cars to send out to some races I was trying to figure out the best way to ship without damage to the car. Then one day I was like a paint can would be pretty durable. I just wrapped the car in bubble wrap then added a little more bubble wrap to take up the dead space. Than put my entry form and return money all in the can. The just made a box around the can. Pretty sure you could have thrown it across the room with no damage. Structure of the can would take quite a bit of force to start denting/crushing it. I believe I paid $2.46 per can. Usually only costs about 5 to 6 bucks to ship the box with the car and can inside. I have custom labels now too. — Big_Mac
Did one final (final) pick-up today and got the stragglers due to our awesome postal system. Big Al, Kickserve, and Cliff are on-site and ready to roll. That's it. Gates are closed.
I'll post race groups today or tomorrow, and should start racing this weekend. I'll probably only get 1 or 2 groups done during the week, but there will be action to watch soon!
The entry showcase should be on YouTube tonight so look for that on the channel.
Otherwise, I've put everyone into pools/groups for the first stage of the round robins. The Challonge web site I usually use to manage the brackets has been flakely all this week so I've abandoned it for this one, I just don't trust it. So I'll be tracking things on my own and do my best to put up a spreadsheet as we go. Sorry about that...vendors, man, vendors...
Since there are 26 entries, one pool will have a 6 cars while the rest all have 5, thus there will be byes in all but the first group. Top 2 winners from each group will move on to the final bracket.
