Season 7, Week 5 highlights

After a long Thanksgiving break, racers returned to the track to start the home stretch of Season 7. With only 2 weeks left in the season, every point matters as things are tight on the leaderboard.

Same Ol Situation - Cars from across the ocean took center stage this week as a lot of European favorites took to the strip, and not without a few surprises. In the first race of Round 1, the VW 181 barely got a win against the snazzy Austin Healy, it was a pretty even match. And while it's probably no surprise that the Porsche 928 beat the Lamborghini, the little black Lambo kept up far better than anyone would have expected. Yet thankfully for the Italian bull, the 4-door Estoque showed everyone who's boss by first narrowly beating the VW Thing FTE and then eventually on to the gold. Other notable match-ups from Round 1 were seeing the BMW out race the Ferrari 365 by a fender, and then the Evo FTE scoot by the F Racer in one of the most even races we've seen all season. Have no shame if you picked the F Racer and had your bracket busted.

Heading into Round 2, everything looked pretty cut-n-dry but that ugly Estoque rolled right on by the Baja Bug to somewhat of a surprise reaction from the crowd. The new Lambo is a long car so maybe that gave it some advantage...who knows, but what we do know is that the Lamborghini slide right into the final against the classy white BMW in a showdown for the ages. The final race went all three heats with the final one being the closest race all season long...so close,in fact, that neither flag on the finish line went up all the way. In a normal world you might consider it a tie, but in the world of Redline Derby Racing, there are no ties and the Lambo's flag was raised higher than the Beamer's so the beef from Italy gets the gold. The men from Germany have sworn revenge...

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox
A 4-door Lamborghini? Blasphemy!

Wild Side - If there was ever an unexciting tournament, this might have been it...at least on the track, but if you look at the score board, you'll see that this kept players on the edge of their seat and baffled. The few races of note saw the Blvd Bruiser out-race the open-wheeled Way 2 Fast, and the Fire Eater edge out the hefty Sweet 16 in a full-three drag that saw two well-matched cars battle to the end. Another super-close race was the Round 3 FTE showdown between the Spocket FTE and Fash Fish. This was another incredibly even match-up in which there was no bad pick, just bad luck. But let me say what we're all thinking, "where the hell did Bullet Nose come from?!" Yes, the little yellow rocket had only one race under its belt, and that was a loss against the Wildcat, but this time it came to play and it played hard. Who says flame decals don't help cars go faster?

Top prospects: Porsche 928, BMW M3, Fast Fish FTE

On the leaderboard with 5 brackets left before the championship, JDC442 is on top after a stunning display in "Wilde Side" and a better-than-most showing in the other. But he shouldn't get comfortable as GSR Microracing is only 50 points behind in second and he's put up decent points most of the season. Yet waiting in the wings in Worpex, who has also been batting quite well this season. There's less than 300 points between 1st and 5th right now, so it's still anyone's game. A few well-picked brackets could seal the deal for one of these players...or someone sitting in 5th to 10th going to get lucky?

My Bulllet Nose is fast, so when I saw no one had entered it in this tournament, I jumped on it. Glad I did
