The Race of the Misfit Cars - Videos available
Monday, December 22nd, 2025The Race of the Misfit Cars

UPDATE 12/24 - I finally got the Misfit cars rolling and wrapped the first race — thanks so much for hanging in there! A batch of gnarly computer issues slowed editing from the the Screen to Speedwat event, which pushed this one back, but I’m aiming to finish filming before year’s end and start posting in January. Lesson learned: I’ll be hosting every other month going forward so the racing stays fun and the tech gremlins stay bored.
UPDATE - We already have 32 Spots filled. But in the spirit of the Holiday Season and the meaning of this race...Which is giving the Underdogs a chance...I am going to OPEN UP the race to however many racers want to join...so there will be no cap to the racers.
We all know this is going to be UTTER CHAOS and so lets have some fun! There is room for EVERYONE on Santa's Sleigh!
Welcome racers, to the Island of Misfit Cars! To celebrate Christmas and the Holiday Season. I wanted to host a race inspired by the classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys, this special event is a celebration of the cars that don’t usually get the spotlight.
These are the ones that make us smile, not necessarily the ones built for speed. Maybe they’re quirky, clunky, oddly painted, or just plain different from the Corvettes and F1s of the diecast racing world. But just like on the Island of Misfit Toys, here “misfits have a place too.”
This race is all about fun, laughter, and giving these unique little racers their moment to shine. As King Moonracer might say: “A toy is never truly happy until it is loved by a diecast racer.” And I believe a car is never truly happy until it gets a chance to race.
So let’s set them loose on the track, cheer for the underdogs, and remember: sometimes it’s not about first place—it’s about the joy of racing and belonging. After all, even Rudolph showed the world that what makes you different is what makes you special.
Welcome to the Island of Misfit Cars—where every racer has a home and every car belongs on the track.

Race format and scoring
I'm not sure if this will be single or double elimination yet...A lot is going to depend on how many cars I get. Cars will race in heats of 4 racers where the top one or two in points (after 4 races), moves on to the next round. Cars will alternate lanes between each race.
A point is scored as follows:
- 1st - 5pts
- 2nd - 3pts
- 3rd - 2pts
- 4th - 1pt
- DNF - 0 pts
The car that wins the final race will be declared the winner. Race host has final decision in all races.
Bracket seeding will be random.
Penalties/DNF
Cars are given a grace of 1g over the stated weight limit to account for variance in scales.
If a car fails to meet any of the restrictions listed above, the car will not qualify for victory. Offending cars will still race. Finish position and any prize will go to the runner-up in the case of the penalty car winning.
Cars that fail to run or fit on the track, or that happen to break during racing, will forfeit their matches. Cars that arrive broken will attempt to be minimally repaired before the racing begins. Cars that break during racing will not be repaired or replaced.

As this would be my first race I enter for a modified car, I have a couple of questions for this tournament.
1) Can I add a driver as long as I fit max sizing stated? He would be attached/glued in.
2) Can I use weight tape? I know it is not those little square weights, or lead, or a putty; but just making sure that weight tape is okay to bring the weight up.
This is a race where I know I have seen a few odd cars on my collection, one of them will meet the desired entry goal. :-)
- Hey! Can't wait to have you. That all sounds ok to me. My main concern is getting the track dirty and "gunky" which could happen with Putty. So if that weight tape does the job, lets RACE! — ABC_Allred_Family
- Cool, and I see you have me down for 1 car. Thank you. — RacerGnome
