UPDATED 05/31/26 @ 03:30 PM PST

I am opening up this race to any rookies who can benefit from the winning of the prize.  So as long as you are fairly new to racing and/or a rookie, and could benefit from the prize package to take your racing to the next level; I will open up the race to attract more racers.

  #1: Gman4343               #2: Rusty_Clutch         #3: SandroJiminez        #4: JackH18

  #5: JavierRun                  #6:GR8FULSAM         #7:                                    #8:

  #9:                                  #10:                               #11:                                  #12:

 *************************************************************************

Have you ever drilled out the rivets in your die cast car so you can tear it apart? Did you want to open it up, take apart the axles and polish them up nice and shiny? Were you striving to have that smooth riding axle where your wheels and tires just roll in a perpetual motion granting you speed and consistency?

Have you started determining where to add weight for a specific requirement of a race you want to enter? Have you had that moment when all things are ready to give you the speed and performance you want, and then you put it all back together?

Nothing is sweeter than knowing you did your best to compete against other racers who are doing what you are doing, and all racers think the next race is the one I am going to WIN!

And that is what you get when you modify a die cast car.

Well Guess What? This Race Is Not For You. (LOL)

This race is only for those racers who have never modified a car before. Maybe you're not sure where to start or maybe you haven't read enough on how others do it to feel comfortable yet. Or maybe you just don't have any way to put those axles straight again once you take the car apart? Where are you going to get some weights to put inside? And how will you put the car together when you are finished modifying the car?

Fear not! The prize for this race is a complete outfit of items to get you started on your way. Consider it the starter kit to put you on your journey to modifying your own cars for future races.

How do you enter? You must be a driver who has never modified a car before, and send in any Hot Wheels car that you think can win against 15 other drivers. You can send in 'any' NEW HOT WHEELS CAR STILL IN IT'S ORIGINAL PACKAGING. All cars will be opened, weighed, logged, and put into their own special garage upon arrival. There they will be available and ready for race day.

You just have to choose the right car, beat the other 15 entrants, and take home your first Win and your prize package. This starter package can help get you on your way of modifying cars with supplies that will make it easier to modify your future cars. Before too long, you will be ready to start entering cars into the modified division.

Notes & Extras
I probably type too much and long winded, but maybe because in real life I have COPD and get winded with too much talking.

This will be my first time hosting an event but I have been preparing for this day for many months. This event will be ran by a small "Crew of Two", me and MamaGnome. We will hold a fair and organized event so that you and your car will get a few runs down the track, with ample chance to race your best against your opponents. Good Luck!

Rules & Restrictions

  • Hot Wheels Only; New and in their original un-opened packaging.
  • Stock entries only; any class of the driver's choosing (Drag, Fantasy, Muscle, Your Pick)

Track

This race will be held at The Racer's Edge Motorplex and we will be racing on the Drag Strip: Gnomeo's Run. View track profile and specs

Details & Setup
This event will have the start drop height set for about 10" tall, with a slope set for about 10-Degrees, down 8' long to the straight to the end of the track and the finish line.

Race format and scoring

Race Format & Scoring
Arrival: Each entrant's car upon arrival will be un-packed, checked for visible damage, weighed, and a driver information card created. Each car will then be placed into it's own garage holder and placed into the next available slot in the order it is received and processed.

Race Process: Each car will race against their current opponent, alternating lanes so each will have a time from both lanes. The average time between the 2 times garnered will be the average time for that car. This will be the official recorded time for each match.

Entrants & Matches
To allow each car to race more matches before they might be eliminated, I am using a slightly enhanced version of brackets and ladders. This will insure each car will race a few races and have opportunity to move up before eliminations take place. The cream of the crop will still get there, but it is fair to all participants.

Time Trials (Everyone Races, Everyone Advances)
Each car will race against their current opponent based on their Entry Arrival. This time will establish their base line times. This time will be used for their seeding in the Qualifier Round using a standard bracket format.

Qualifier Round (Everyone Races, Everyone Advances)
Each car will race against their current opponent based on their new seeded position determined from the Time Trials match. Upon completion of this round, all cars will be re-sorted by WIN, then by LOSS, and then by Average Time. In that order, each car will be re-seeded for the Main Event. Method for final placement in the Main Event will be sportsman style ladder.

Each car will be adequately seeded based on it's final placement from the Qualifier Round. All races are now head to head, single elimination. You lose now, you go home. Only the winner of each match will move on.

Tie-Breaker
In the event of a tie in any match, the car with the fastest time in either lane from that race, will be declared the winner. If there is still a tie, then all times recorded in the 'event' will be tallied and averaged to determine the winner. If there is still a tie, the fastest time recorded in any of the earlier matches will determine the winner.

Race host has final decision in all race matters.

Penalties/DNF

Cars will be given a grace of 1g over the stated weight limit to account for variance in scales.

If a car fails to meet any of the restrictions listed above, the car will not qualify to race but will still have an opportunity to post a time if there are no physical limitations. Car is ineligible to win any prize and can only race in Time Trials & the Qualifier Round. Car will be eliminated from further competition as to not skew results for other racers.

Cars that fail to run or fit on the track will not race. If a car arrives broken or breaks during a race, the host will attempt to repair it. No guarantees on Wally the Wrench's ability to fix your car. He only received a D-Minus on his final exam and was the bottom of his class. He barely got his degree. But, as a new track and a new host, I could not afford anyone better and Wally the Wrench is our mechanic on a 1-year probation period for this season. Please be patient.

Any cars that have been removed from the event requiring a replacement open entry; the higher placed cars in the bracket will be given a 'bye' for that race.

Prizes

First Place will receive a New Builder Starter Kit
You will get the famous Red Line Derby Axle Jig with instructions on how to use, 3 other helpful booklets (Track Building, Modding Cars, & Competitive Diecast Racing), a pair of carbon steel cutting snips, 2 pairs of forceps (Straight & Angled), a small tube of E6000 glue, 12 pieces of weight (1/4 oz each), a bag of 20 screws and 20 washers, and a couple of bonus cars.

Gee, sir, I've NEVER modified a car before ...... can I enter? ;P

Seriously though, that sounds like a nice prize package, and a good way to get people into the sport.

What do others think?  Do you think it is too restrictive to have only those who have never opened a car be in the race?  I do of course want a full race.

I am considering opening up the field to expand a more base crowd who can join the race.  I am just trying to test the waters of only 16 cars, and to those who would benefit from the prize.

I certainly don't want there NOT to be a race, so open it up if you have to, but maybe stipulate that the prize will go to the highest finishing newb rather than whoever the actual winner is?
