Thoughts on a Royal Rumble race

I'm not ashamed to say I'm big pro wrestling fan, have been my whole life. And this Sunday is the Royal Rumble, where the match starts with 2 wrestlers and then every few minutes, a new wrestler enters the ring. The goal is to toss your opponents over the top rope and be the last one in the ring after 30 guys have come and gone. It's an elimination match with a distinct advantage going to guys at the end of draw but has some baked in drama with early guys lasting a long time, etc. etc. etc....

So that had me thinking about such a thing for a race, but since I only have a 2-lane track I'm not sure how exciting it would be.

The idea that there would be up to 30 entrants and everybody gets a number assigned at random. That number is your entry number. Thus entry #1 and #2 face off first, winner stays, and then entry #3 enters as the next opponent...and so on...the loser goes out, winner stays. The last car to win, wins the whole thing.

Ideally, I'd like to do this with a 4-lane track but I don't have enough of the same track to complete all four of my lanes, so that leaves me with my normal two.

Thoughts on if this style of elimination would be worth while on only 2 lanes, or should I put this one on the back burner until I can get all 4 lanes together...?

Would be just as good on 2 lanes as 4 ide imagine!  Sounds like a fun idea to me!

  • Might be a good excuse to take stock of my segmented track. I might have enough for 3 lanes... — redlinederby

  • ...or is the Dragon what you seek in a rumble — LeagueofSpeed
  • I'm lookin to run this one :) but certainly a format that lends itself to it. — redlinederby

Watched wrestling many moons ago. Current stuff, not so much. Race format sounds interesting.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I think I will go with just 2 lanes and see how it goes. I was thinking about 3 lanes but then realized it would/could be difficult to tell who the last person in a race is even with video. So the 2 lanes will make that part easy.

Should be some opportunity for fun with the entry numbers drawing and stuff. I'll start planning...

You could do a 2-1 merger and either the first one through, or the last one standing after the collision at the merger wins?

I like the idea either way and hope to participate in it if it comes to be!

  • I've got one of those...another track idea....Bottleneck Pass — LeagueofSpeed
  • I USUALLY dont like em because it eliminates a neck and neck race and can cause damage...buuuuuut...if thats the whole point of the race, then GAME ON! — Mattman213
  • I don't have any merger pieces...but I can print them! Interesting idea...might play with that. — redlinederby
  • The "beat em up" of the merger lends itself to the wrestling theme too, meh — redlinederby
  • I might have a couple laying around if you end up needing one. — Mattman213
