Using graphite

ConceptTA Tuesday, 3/19/2013

Hi all,

So I've tried to dry graphite some cars a handful of times now and haven't seen any noticeable results. They seem to run about the same speed as before. My basis is running it against the same car just before and after graphite. I'm wondering if maybe I am not applying it correctly? I take the car and hold it on its side. I position the axle so the end sticks up from the wheel a bit, to allow the graphite to get in there. Squeeze a little on (just enough to cover the pin size axle end) and tap the wheel to get in down in the wheel. Then I spin the wheel until I don't see the graphite anymore and move on to the next wheel. Does this sound like I am doing it right? Any other tips or tricks?

i only use it when an axle is not up to snuff and i am removing the axles, while the axles are loose [in hand] i graffite, spin, spin, spin, and then i wipe off all the [black] that i can, spin, wipe, spin, and wipe clean... the graffite is only in the low spots of the axles or wheels... but maybe ask the guys that win !

Your application method sounds correct, but you might get more graphite into the wheel/axle gaps if you rotate the wheels too long, you can literally pack the wheel/axle gaps to capacity and the cars will run slower...until they're raced repeatedly and expel enough graphite to run smoothly again.
