What does it mean when race rules say something like, 'weights can't be seen" or "weights shouldn't be visible"? I even read something like, "weights not visible for presentation."

thanx,

Sudz

  • if you used a bunch of pennies for weight, you should not see them. black out windows, close the sides in, no lead sinker in the middle of a convertible, etc — dr_dodge
  • Just hide the weight so it can’t be seen. No stacked weight in the back of a p/u. Make a cover and glue it on to conceal the weight. I don’t think you necessarily have to fill in the windows. Most of my mods have no interiors but I do paint the windows on the inside and I paint the weights on the inside black so it’s not visible. — 41-14

RETAIL AXLES ONLY:   Does this mean they have to be kept intact?  Or could they be cut in half and reinstalled in tubes?

  • loaded question there...lol — dr_dodge
  • Unless it’s specifically says no axle tubes. You should be fine using retail axles cut in half with tubes. I use them quite often when I need to widen the axle to fit a particular chassis. — 41-14
  • Many different thoughts on that, and also how that is policed! — CutRock_R_Marc_D
  • The reason I have gone to split tubes, retail axle, uncut, encased in brass — dr_dodge
  • best of both worlds, wide axle/narrow chassis, axles uncut — dr_dodge

What is a good starting formula for a basic dry lubricant?  In particular, the ingredients, partical sizes (in microns), and mix ratios.  One video mentions for Black Ice, 20:1 graphite to oil...  Oil?!

The costs of premium premixed lubricants can add up very fast.

  • Isopropyl alcohol evaporates leaving behind the graphite residue. The alcohol is just a delivery system that won’t melt the plastic. — alva1370
  • Oil I don’t know, I just use dry graphite and tapping — alva1370
  • I use vodka, and hobby lobby pinewood derby stuff. applied wet, it seems the graphite gets inside the wheel better, and you don't end up with black all over the bench — dr_dodge
