Corkscrew Laguna is an open track corkscrew layout featuring four 180 degree turns. The track was inspired by the Laguna Seca (although is not an actual replica).

This will be the only mail in tournament we run on Corkscrew Laguna, with a significantly larger track and studio space in the works. Watch this space!

There are 16 spaces in the tournament with no qualifiers. We can still take submissions up until mid May for the opening round subject to availability.

We are based in the UK, but we are accepting cars internationally.

Rules & restrictions

  • Modified entries only
  • 75g maximum weight
  • 3.25in. long x 2in. tall x 1.25in. wide
  • Limit 2 entries per household. This may be increased if we do not fill the slots due to the short notice of this tournament. Unfilled gaps will be filled with Hot Wheels mainline (non modified)
  • Retail axles and wheels only. FTE/NPA axles allowed.
  • Dry lube only

Dates & deadlines

All entries must be received by the host before Sunday, 4/28/2024 but we can take a few entries between 04/28/2024 and 05/11/2024 if needed due to the short notice. Racing for the first group is scheduled for Sunday, 4/28/2024. Results will be post when the YouTube video is posted (every 1 - 2 weeks from when the tournament starts).

How to enter

Contact the tournament host to get the shipping address for entry.

Include at least £5.00 for return shipping if you want your entries back. Entries not getting returned will be retained by XR Diecast Racing for 12 months and may be re-entered to future races with your permission. At this time we can only return cars inside the UK, but we can accept cars from outside of the UK for those that don't mind not having them returned.

Include a Race Entry ID slip with your entry

Track

Corkscrew Laguna is a crash racers track, with a 1.5m section of Hot Wheels track at the start coming out of the start gate. The track features 5 straights ranging between 1.5 and 2.4m and 4 x 180 degree turns.

We've made the most of limited space for this track, so be prepared for a few crashes due to all the turns! Check out the first tournament on our YouTube Channel.

Race format and scoring

There will be three rounds. The first round will feature 4 groups of 4 racers (one video per group race). Each group will race 4 races, with cars alternating starting positions.

For each race:

1st Place = 5 Points
2nd Place = 3 Points
3rd Place = 2 Points
4th Place = 1 Points
DNF (Did not Finish) = 0 Points

The two racers with the most points after the four races will go through to the semi finals. This means there will be 8 positions in the semi finals (round 2).

In round 2, there will two group races, each with four racers using the same format as round 1. The two racers from each group with the most points will go through to the finals.

The finals will feature four racers, using the same points system across 4 races. The racer with the most points will win the tournament.

In the event of a tie in any round, the racer with the fewest DNFs will go through to the next round (if not applicable, the two racers will go head to head in a decider race).

The car that wins the final race will be declared the winner. Race host has final decision in all races. Our track will be inspected and tested before each group, but no adjustments will be made between the four races to ensure all cars are subject to the same conditions. The design of this track inevitably leads to a few crashes which is all part of the fun.

Bracket seeding will be random.

If you would like your car(s) returned, you must cover the cost of return postage (enclose £5 for Royal Mail second class delivery, or you can email your own pre-paid postage label). Any cars not being returned will be retained by us for at least 12 months and you may be asked if you would like to enter them to future tournaments or solo races. At this time we can only return cars within the UK, but we can take cars internationally.

Make sure you submit your redline slip and team name!

Penalties/DNF

Cars are given a grace of 1g over the stated weight limit to account for variance in scales.

If a car fails to meet any of the restrictions listed above, the car will not qualify for victory. Offending cars will still race depending on how severe the offence is. Finish position and any prize will go to the runner-up in the case of the penalty car winning.

Cars that fail to run or fit on the track, or that happen to break during racing, will forfeit their matches. Cars that arrive broken will attempt to be minimally repaired before the racing begins. Cars that break during racing will not be repaired or replaced.

If a car crashes and causes another car to crash, both cars will still get a DNF if they do not cross the finish line.

Prize

The winning team will have their team name/logo displayed on a billboard in our new track (under construction) for the duration of the next tournament.

Discussion

We can be there if you take race teams from the US.

If not, disregard this.

  • See you there! I've put you down for one car, but let me know if you want to put in two. There is space at the moment. Will message you the address now — XR_Diecast_Racing
  • Got you down for 1 as we're full now. If you had wanted to send 2 you're welcome to still do that in case someone pulls out. If not used it would be put aside for the first tournament on our new track — XR_Diecast_Racing

I'll take the last two spots if no one else has claimed them. Or if someone else wants one, I'll take one. Thanks!

  • Done! I've got you in. Just waiting to confirm if 409_Diecast_Racing is in for one or two, but either way there will be at least one spot. Will confirm tomorrow at the latest! — XR_Diecast_Racing

The tournament is now full!! Thanks for signing up and we look forward to hosting you! We will update you when your cars roll off the shipping container.

If you would like to send a (up to) 10 seconds intro clip (audio only) to introduce your team, email it to XRDiecast@gmail.com.

Doesn't need to be professionally recorded (could just use your phone) or taken too seriously. Just a bit about your team/where you are from or about the car(s) you have come up with.

Completely optional! If you are interested any time in the next week or two would be fine.

Will be featured in a tournament video and/or a YouTube short/Instagram reel with pictures or footage of your car that we will take.

Glad to see you have a full tournament! I've seen some of your racing, track looks great. If a spot opens up, I always have cars ready to go somewhere:)

  • Thanks! You're welcome to send in case anyone pulls out as we have no contingency at the moment. If not used for this tournament, we will use them in our next tournament. We're also building a bigger track with Spool Heads and will be filming a build journal, so we could use them for testing in the videos (as well as on standby for the next tournament). Let me know! — XR_Diecast_Racing
  • Ok that sounds great! Please send me the address — ChaseFamilyRacing
  • Awesome, just messaged you the address — XR_Diecast_Racing
  • We've just had someone pull out, so we have a couple slots open. Did you decide on sending a couple in? The slots are yours if you want them! — XR_Diecast_Racing

We're up and running on Facebook now under XR diecast racing (may still show the old name XTR Diecast Racing when you search). Will share pictures of arrivals on Instagram and Facebook. I'll also message everyone when their cars arrive and update the list in the event above.

If anyone decides to pull out please let me know ASAP so we can re-open the spaces.

Look forward to hosting you all!

We are due to film the first race on Sunday 28th, with a view to publishing the video on YouTube Friday 3rd. Still quite a lot of cars to come in. Two arrived at my office which is being redirected to me at home for tomorrow - I think they are from Hardcore Poetic. Will confirm once i have them.

We have just about enough cars for the first group race (without having two of the same team).

Group 1 Racing Sunday 28th April - Airing Friday 3rd March

  • Essex Boys Racing
  • Raptors Racing
  • Puffs Racing
  • Hardcore Poetic

Good luck! Drop us a follow on Instagram and Facebook if you'd like to see some of the cars we have had in. Please comment or email me (XRdiecast@gmail.com) with your team logo if I don't have it below (if you have one, not a problem if not). It's just to feature in the video.

The overall tournament winner will have their team name displayed on one of these awesome SC billboards on our new track (coming late summer) for two tournaments. The runner up will be one tournament.
