Zuru Metal Machines?

TheMakersBox Friday, 2/17/2023

I've been eying the Zuru Metal Machines as possible racers.  The plastic body / metal base is appealing for road courses, but the wheels might be an issue.

Anyone raced these or thought about it?

I have a few of them and have seen them in other racing series over the years with mixed results. But you're correct, their plastic-on-metal construction would make them a nice choice for road courses. Like all cheap diecast, their build quality is either hit or miss and you might have to crack open a few until you find a good rolling example. IMO, their weakest link is styling, although the pseudo-Camaro above looks pretty nice.

The Buffalo won a 3D tourney way back in the day. They're great for CG all the weight is in base. Axles "float" and are only secured by the "cradles" built into interior. i.e. lateral movement.

The axles are nickel plated or at least plated in something. The biggest issue is quality is hit or miss. Even if you find one with nice smooth axles the wheels will probably be junk.

The best news about them is they are usually cheap. You can afford to buy several while looking for a good pair of wheels and axles on them
