Axle Question

I've noticed on some of the Johnny Lightning cars that the wheels are not full floating on the axles (the axle doesn't go completely through the wheel). Do these wheels have some sort of "axle bearing" like the original Hot Wheels redline wheels?

I can't speak for the JL cars. As for the Hot Wheels Red Line club cars that have wheels that look like original redlines. They are actually two piece wheels with no bushing. The axel passes through the one piece tire and rear wheel section. The chrome front piece pushes onto the tire covering the flattened end of the axel. They look like original Redlines but performance is sub-par to mainline wheels much less FTE's. I would think that the JL wheels are put together the same way. The performance of some of the JL wheels are superior to Redline look-a-likes.

Definitely a two-piece. I've done many swaps just by pushing the outside part off the tire from behind and popping a different style back in. If you look at the back side of the tire there are two slots. I use a small file and just push the chrome part out from behind. You'll find quite a bit of play in the tire though as the outer part helps keep the tie from rubbing up against the chassis.
