Drag Week 2015...RLD style...

72_Chevy_C10 Wednesday, 4/8/2015

HI Guys,

Last year, Drag Week was streamed live on the internet and, I have to admit, I watched most of it out of the corner of my eye, here at work. And, I think that it is one of the coolest (full scale) events out there. If you are aren't familiar with it (http://www.hotrod.com/news/2015-hot-rod-drag-week-day-1-track-announcement/), drag racers run there cars at five different tracks in 5 days...and DRIVE THEM from track to track! So, it is also an endurance event, for the drivers and the cars!

So,here is the idea...I will run a week-long event. A drag race every night on a slightly different track. With the catch being...I will set up an oval track with a booster, and each car will "drive" 20 laps or so every day to simulate driving from track to track.

The cars will have to be built to last!

Rules & Restrictions

  • One 57 gram car, One 40 gram car
  • Size restrictions - usual sizes 3.5" long, 1.3" high, orange track wide (1.3" approx)
  • Cars per entrant/household - 2 per racer, one 57 gram, one 40 gram
  • Brand, body style, year, make/model requirements - Any style, but no 'fantasy cars". Think, "what car would I drag race?" when you are choosing your cars. Open to cars, truck, vans
  • Wheel limitations, requirements - Any wheels...FTE's are legal
  • Must be drilled rivets
  • Dry lubes only
  • Misc requirements - remember, your cars will have to get around an oval track as well as the drag track

Prizes

TBD. I don't know yet...but, chances are, there will be a custom, one-off, car or two up for grabs!

How to enter

Post a reply along with how many cars you're going to enter.

Your cars will be returned to you...but, if you wish to include $5, that would be okay too :)

Where to send your cars

Chris Raab

9 Sherman Ridge Road

Sussex, NJ    07461

Don't forget to print an ID card with your entry

Entry deadline

All entries must be received by the host before 9/7/2015

Scoring and Winning

1 point per win, an extra point for winning the heat, 1 point for winning the 3rd place race

Penalties

I will do my best to keep your cars up and running for the week, if there is a problem. Your cars will be weighed and I will spot you 1gram over (due to difference in scales). If over that, I will lighten the cars, if it can be easily done...but, try to watch your car weights, Guys!

Tracks & Dates

A week-long event, all at 72 Chevy C10's track

Series tracks
  • 9/7/2015 - 9/11/2015, NJ 72_Chevy_C10

Winners and Results

TBD. Mention the winner, the final results and include a picture of the winning car if available.

Discussion

Different is good...this is a cool idea.

Host will have his work cut out for him...if say 30 cars need to run 20 laps each night... Loop left turns like Nascar, or Right turns?

Gonna need to find some D' batteries and dig out a booster...

I'll probably just run a nascar oval...or maybe a figure 8...I'll see what I can make up!

I'll probably just hard wire a booster to a train transformer!

Oh, and this will be happening the week before the actual Drag Week race will be happening!

I'm glad we have a few months to prepare.  With the Red Ball Rally, Beater Trucks/Fat Fenders, Pro Stock, and Truck-O-Rama I am swamped!  Probably going to have to drop one of those...

  • That's why I schdule the races a few months ahead...time to build and test! — 72_Chevy_C10

And Smitty, they do run a Hot Rod class at drag week...

  • note the V8 on the headlight bar, 4's got a steel bar, V8's got stainless center tube and the V8. — model40fan
  • I think it was the guy's Dad's car, that was built in the '50's...cool car! — 72_Chevy_C10
