Greetings from Sunshine City Garage

Hello everyone,
Just registered and thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Jim Arness and I'm born and raised in The Sunshine City of St. Petersburg, Florida. Played with many a diecast car as a kid back in the mid 70's and recently I set out to get my favorite Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars from childhood. I'm delving into restorations and custommizing a bit and thanks to EP Racing on youtube I'm thinking about putting together a "retro track." When I'm not working on diecast cars I'm either fishing or playing or designing miniature tabletop wargames.
I hope to learn and contribute here and get to know some folks that share my interest in little cars.

Hello Jim, my name is Al. Greetings from Southern California. I'm a car person myself but I'm starting to acquire track pieces. Looking forward to seeing your track take shape.
Welcome back to your childhood. My name is Jason. I'm in Cincinnati, Ohio and built Jungle Falls Raceway. I am not a car builder but I do have a love for putting tracks together. Also hosting races on my track. I've learned a great deal just from being apart of RedLineDerby. Looking forward to see your builds(cars and track) if you have questions i am glad to help if I can.
Jason
Gabba, gabba, we accept you, we accept you, ONE OF US !!!
Jim, welcome to the madness of diecast racing. Please make sure your credit and debit cards are locked securely away, and please stop after giving a quart of blood. Kidneys, first-borns, and souls are not acceptable payments.
All of that said, welcome. We have a very diverse and eclectic group of racers here, ranging anywhere from first-time rookies to old veterans who have been around for a number of years. If you want information, make sure you dive into the archives here, especially on modding and restoration (fair warning: that's going to be a VERY deep dive!) We're looking forward to having you here, and seeing you on the track sometime.

Welcome!
This is a great community and a wealth of information can be found here. If you ever have any questions, ask away.
Thanks for all the greetings guys. I defiitely lean towards restoring and customizing cars than track, but it sounds like fun to send them down a track ot see how they do. So far my track consists of 1.7 Hot Wheels wipeout tracks plus some extra orange. I'm working on disecting the power boosters and see if I can't get them to work. I will try to get some pictures of my cars up soon, I've done a few colorshift cars and I'm still trying to find a way to take pictures that show off the effect.
Well Dutch Clutch you stay warm up there in Wisconsin.
Thanks for the encouragement Al looks like we might be building a track together.
Jason thanks for the offer of help, I'm sure I will take youo up on that sooner or later. Do you have any pictures of your track?
Just a few rough shots of my latest. Corgi Pininfarina modulo
- Dude, that's nice. Haven't seen one of those in years. — SpyDude
- That's very sweet — GBURacing
- Yeah, I haven't seen one of those in a very long time. Looks great. — Billys_Midway_Racing
- Thanks guys. Unfortunately she's all show and no go, I used rubber bands to hold her together while the epoxy dried. It caused her innards to shift and her wheels rub when she rolls. — Sunshine_City_Garage
Welcome!!
Best pictures i got. Its quite a large track. Hard to get in one picture.
- Wow Jason that track is great! How long is it? — Sunshine_City_Garage
- 7 feet tall, 117 feet long. — 1Jungle_Falls
Welcome! You can call me Maniac. I've been here almost a year, and it's been a blast!
Hey Jim!
I'm in St. Pete also! Hit me up when you get a chance and maybe we can get together for some match racing at my place, Hot Nuts Diecast Racing, 'Moonshine Dragstrip'!
Craigster
- Hello Craigster, thank you for the invite, I have a bit of spring clean chores that will keep me busy for a few weeks but I would definitely like to get together and race sometime. What kind of track do you have? — Sunshine_City_Garage

welcome!
I'm in Houston
My current track is Goat Hill, a 1/64 hill climb track.
The boosters should be easy to get fired up.
(slot car motors are great replacements for trashed can type motors)
dr
- Hello Dr Dodge. So my noobness is showing, what do you mean by a "hill climb track?" I don't think I explained the boosters I have very well, they are old school crank boxes that the track would enter and when the cars when in internal rollers would propel the car out the other side. — Sunshine_City_Garage
- Those are VERY old-school, then. Newer boosters are battery-powered, and work on the same concept. — SpyDude
Welcome Newcomer! You'll meet a lot of great people around here with helpful information if you ask. I'm up in Wisconsin but have some ties to the Florida Gulf Coast . Love that area!
