Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

After taking a lot of info learned from the Redline Derby blogs and forums as well as from visiting Austin Diecast Drags, today I started building a track. Here are some progress pics:

After tripping over Jobe's track a few times I decided to put some support straps here. It is screwed to the track on one side. The side attached to the riser has a hole large enough to go over the screw and there is a slot to help it stay. When stored there is another screw on the track for the support to attach to.

All folded up and ready to go!

Now I've got to study up and decide how to build a starting gate.
Testing should begin soon!

Nice build so far, man, digging it. Love the compact version, nicely done. The ability to pack-n-go with that design is my favorite thing about it. It's not inconvenient in the slightest.

And don't forget to give that sucker a coat of paint once you're happy with it all.

econo yello... or....martha magento ?

Lookin' good!

I would go with the yellow if you have orange track.

I like the support and the second piece of wood for the gradual transition.

How long is it?

Built a HalfFast start gate. Here's a mock-up:

Used a cabinet latch instead of magnets to keep gate closed.

Bottom view. In order to test for different track layouts I didn't fix the start gate to the track. Wing nuts clamp the gate to anywhere on the track.

Thanks! It's going to be a 25 footer. I've got a fifty foot roll to cut in half.

Nice Carl, I like the movable starting gate.

Does the latch release fast enough? Also is that plexiglass or lexan/polycarbonate? I broke my first two gates made out of plexiglass. Friend in the sign biz hooked me up with some Lexan...bullet proof!

So when are your first test runs?

Allz there is left to do is afix the track to the track (huh?). Hope to have it done by weeks end.

Very nice starting gate. Looking good. Is HalfFast Raceway going to be on the Featherweight circuit?

Very cool design. I think the hardcore series might have to make another stop in Texas some time soon ! Lol.
