Host rating survey, for members only
We're gonna give this a shot but I have to admit I'm a little worried, yet it's something we clearly need and I just hope it will help.
About the survey
It's a basic 5-star rating and no extras. No options for extra comments or anything.
The list of hosts includes all RLD members that posted a race in 2025 only. And some of the ones listed might not have even hosted a mail-in race...if you see a name and think, "who the hell is that?" leave their stars blank and don't rate them.
The survey rates event hosts in 3 primary areas:
- Communications, meaning how well the host communicated before, during, and after the race. In short, how good was the customer service?
- Shipping & handling, meaning how well the host managed shipping of cars before and after the race, including payments, etc. Did they return cars like they said and in a timely manner?
- Execution, meaning how well the host did at the overall production of the race. Consider things like organization, rules/scoring, professionalism, track build, and presentation.
There's also a rating for how much you'd recommend this host to other racers and how much you'd likely race with them again.
This type of free-for-all rating is not the ideal situation. I'd much prefer that only the people that have raced with a host get to vote for that host, but right now there's no way to do that so it's open to every member. Again, please vote fairly.
Before you start
- Please only submit ratings for the hosts you have raced with. Do not submit ratings based on hearsay and whatever online reputation they may have. The ratings need to be a tool for people to determine if they want to race with a host in the future, therefore, it needs to be reliable.
- You can only submit the survey once! It's one big form with a lot of hosts in the list. Take your time because you can't rate a few, submit it, and then come back to rate more. And I won't be able to give you access to vote again.
- Leave all the stars blank for hosts you have no experience with. There's no way to clear stars, so if you misclick, I guess give that host 3 stars across the board to be somewhat fair.

Like I said, I'm a little worried about what type of flood gates this might open but I guess it's also a good experiment to see if we're able to be adults about this (I have my doubts). If this thing ends up being more of a negative than a positive, it'll get removed and we won't do any more ratings until there's a better way to tie entrants to hosts.
I know this can help, I just hope you all want it to help. Lets see what happens.

This is a great idea... For the record, I gave myself a 3 on return shipping... I may not be fast, but I'm slow! You WILL get your car(s) back... eventually... Thanks for doing this!, Sr.
Not a bad poll. Better than nothing. It's still a bit of a popularity contest when there are hosts who have had cars for 2 years that they haven't raced and get 4 stars.

Glad folks see the value in this even in it's limited form.
Maybe goes without saying but when looking at the results, take into consideration the number of votes as well. The survey doesn't do any fancy math to normalize that.
Someone with a 5.0 rating and 10 votes is "better" than someone with a 5.0 rating and only one vote. Averages will go down the more votes it gets, generally speaking...but that vote number should also be indicitive of how reliable/popular they are since that many more people have raced with them.
- Yes this is a metric that should be tracked in some rough form —- number of votes. Less than 10 votes might be a tiny dot, less then 20 votes is a bigger dot etc. More votes yields a bigger dot. — AbbyNormal
Of course after hosting one event and seeing results, it would also be nice to see some feedback where I can do better. Dropping anonymous stars is bit... questionable at best.

I am just curious, how do I have votes when all I ever ran was a "You Pick" race at the beginning of last year?
I only ask because I was hoping to run some mail-in races in the second half of the year and worry this will effect participation.
I am sorry to whomever I angered to vote me badly when I have never hosted a single mail-in race before.

Too bad all the tracks aren't on there. Don't see my track, but maybe that's a good thing haha. Seriously though, I'd think I would get a good rating...

- Wow I didn’t know we had to give extra mercy points. I raced in his event and he did a fine / fair job. He had a compact track - ran the races ok - may have been a minor camera issue etc. - I got my cars back just fine. If you’re getting a 3 or 3.5 on a mail in I’d say you are doing fine. Is everyone supposed to get a 4 or a 5? That would be silly. My concern(s) would be for track hosts scoring 2 or less. — AbbyNormal

- I would tend to agree with Abby...anything 3 and up is a perfectly passing grade and would race there, if you ask me. If people are treating this as an all-or-nothing situation then it's not doing its job very well. — redlinederby
Maybe not as ideal as you wanted it, but a good start. This gives us SOME way to anonymously give feedback on the hosts, and gives everyone a look as to where the best (or worst) racing experiences have been.
I made a slight mistake and clicked on BlueLine's track, even though I know he wasn't actively hosting races in 2025. However, since he was gracious and efficient with his hosting during previous years, I went ahead and included my rating for him, regardless.
