Red Desert Baja II

The Red Desert Baja race is back! Last year I created the Red Desert Baja course.  It was a tough track with jumps, bumps, and multiple surfaces.  Cars run a time trial on the course, and the cars that are able to finish the course race head to head in a single elimination bracket. I may modify the course a bit this year, but here is some video of the fastest time trial of each car that finished on last year’s track.

Rules & Restrictions

• Max weight 65 grams.
• Max length 4 inches.
• Max height 2.5 inches.
• Width - should fit on Hot Wheels orange track. (I utilized orange track for the start gate last year and probably will do so again this year.)
• One car per entrant.  If you have multiple people sending cars in the same house that’s fine.  I want everyone that wants to enter to be able to, but this race is a lot of video work since everyone gets their own time trial video so just one car per person please.
• Cars can be any brand 1/64 scale cars.
• Any wheels and axles are allowed.
• Stock or modified cars are allowed.
• Dry lubes only

Entry deadline

All entries must be received before September 1st, 2016.  Racing will take place soon after that date. 

Scoring and Winning

First there will be a time trial.  Each car will have 5 runs.  I will measure how far the car goes each run and then add up the total. I will order the top total distances covered and the car with the farthest distance will get 10 points, 2nd farthest 9 points, and so on down to 1 point for 10th farthest.  

A car will receive 5 points for each time they finish a run. If the car finishes the course the time will also be recorded.  

Next, I will order the finishing times from the fastest to the 10th fastest (if ten cars finish) and the fastest will receive 10 points, the 2nd fastest 9 points and so on down to 1 point for the 10th fastest.  

Finally I will take the cars with the top 16 fastest finishing times and put them in a head to head single elimination bracket. If there are not 16 cars that finish the course, then I will fill out the remaining 16 car field using the total distance. The first place finisher in the race bracket will receive 10 points, 2nd 9 points, and so on down to 10th place will receive 1 point.  

The winner of the baja course will be the car that scores the most points.  Points for finishing, points for time, points for distance, and points for the race.

Penalties

If a car doesn’t fit the specification but still fits on the track, it will be raced in the time trial so that you can see your car race, but will not score any points and won’t qualify to race in the head to head bracket.

Winners and Results will be posted on RLD probably in this thread unless it gets long - then I may start a new Results thread.  I plan on filming similar to last year with each entrant getting their own time trial video, and then video of the head to head racing as well.
