Wheel size comparisons and database

Started a spreadsheet with above mentioned parameters with tab for Hot Wheels and separate tab for Matchbox.  Will keep addding as I have time, I don't have a huge amount of cars but I will keep going as I can.

Since adding this to the website is not an overnight thing, we'll be using a spreadsheet for initial collection and even for lookup. I made a Google sheet and hopefully the screenshot here will help visualize it a bit too. It's just gonna be a row per casting and then dropdowns to pick the sizes. And once we have the options narrowed done to a good list, I'll share out this spreadsheet so everyone can start inputting their findings.

Thing is, we're still coming up with the numbers that will populate those dropdowns. There's only going to be so many. We only want so many. We have a good start but certainly haven't gotten enough to create the Master List of options. 

My point here is...don't do too much inputing for specific castings yet because some of that data may need changed/adapated to the standards we come up with. And I'd hate for anyone to do 100s of cars only to have to redo it or have it not be that helpful.

First step...figure out the options. Second step...inputting all the data using those options.

If I might suggest, a column with "TYPE"?  Or whatever word works best to describe it, but I am thinking that some unified category that a car fits in.

Such as if it is found that there are basically 20 different casting wheel combinations, and maybe an 'not standard' one, you can classify them in the database/spreadsheet.

So instead of listing on screen as you have it with each match showing their close search, you can have the column that is TYPE and if your car is predetermined to be a Type K, the display of exact Type K cars can fill the screen.  You can fit more car names on the screen for the viewer if it only showed the base namee as all of them have the same specs.  No reason to show specs for all matches if all of them are the same.

But another way is to search for your car, see it's main Type designation, then have it display matching Type cars only as an option if they match exactly.  You can still keep main format, but a 'only same type' will make more cars viewable on the screen.

Your current display works, and you get the full data of each car, but will also probably allow for about 20 cars on screen to be displayed.  If the database/spreadsheet finds 300 cars that match, much of the page screen will be duplicate data displayed, where if you just put the car name; you can fit probably 80 plus cars per screen.

Just a thought.

Just a heads up, I will be working on getting some more measurements this weekend. 

Thanks for the reminder! I put together a public Google sheet that anyone can add to. It has dropdowns for the common values but you can enter any number you want. I would recommend using the dropdowns as much as possible and rounding accordingly. If you come up with numbers not in the dropdown that you hit frequently, just add them manually and we'll adjust later.

It'll be a start and we'll see where it goes and how it can help.

I've noticed a couple of my old matchbox cars have incredibly fast wheels. They kinda look similar to the hot wheels LW. There bigger cars and heavy, and the wheels are bigger too. But damn they are smooth. Been thinking of sacrificing the cars for some of my favourite hot wheels. Maybe putting em on one of my old beat up metal fire trucks.
