When: Monday, December 12, 2016

Welcome to 2016 Pro Series Fantasy Fallout. This is the final tournament of the 2016 Redline Derby Pro SeriesEntry is open to everyone. You do not have to have entrered a previous Pro Series tournament to qualify. The points earned in this tournament go towards each racer's Pro Series total. At the end of the year, the racer with the most total points in will be crowned champion.

This will be a standard, double-elimination bracket. The car that wins the final, wins this tournament. Points earned only go towards the Pro Series total, they do not determine the winner of this tournament.

Following this tournament, the overall Pro Series champion will be announced and trophy awarded.

Fantasy Fallout

This is it! The year-long Pro Series finale happens in December with the Fantasy Fallout. We focus a lot on real car models in our races but for the final tournament we're heading in the opposite direction. No real cars allowed...and we're going extreme fantasy with this one too, so no real world inspired cars either. If it looks like a car you'd see on the road, try again.

See below for details.

Rules & Restrictions

  • Weight: 70g max
  • Car size: Max 3.25" long by 2" high. Width should fit on standard HW orange track.
  • Limit 1 cars per entrant
  • Any brand (See model limits below)
  • Retail wheels and axles only. Any axle type allowed.
  • Must be drilled rivets, no stock entries
  • Dry lubes only
  • Must be a new build. No previously raced cars.

Casting restrictions

The body of your entry must be a fantasy creation, either retail or your own creation. It SHOULD NOT look like a real car you'd see on the street. Even if it's a Mattel creation but looks legit, avoid it.

We're talking stuff like this...

And this, and this and this...but NOT like this...

The racer that wins this bracket will receive a $10 gift card (digital)

How to enter

Post a reply with your intention to enter, then ship your entry car so that it arrives before December 12, 2016.

Send entries to:

Redline Derby Racing c/o Brian Vaughn
PO Box 842
Grove City, OH 43123

Please include an RLD Entry ID Card with your entry along with some money to cover the cost of returning your car if you want it back.

Scoring and Winning

This is a standard, double-elimination bracket. Each match-up will be best 2-out-3, alternating lanes. Seeding will be random as will any byes that are needed. The car that wins the bracket is champ. Points do not determine the winner of this tournament.

Pro Series points are +10 for every win in the main bracket. The tournament winner will receive +20 for the victory. There will be no points awarded for Loser Bracket wins.

Cars will be inspected on arrival and checked for weight and other conditions. Any car that fails inspection will be removed from the tournament and returned to the owner.

Each car is given one do-over if they come off the track during a run. If goes off track a second time, it will forfeit that match.

Host Track

This tournament will be racing on the Redline Derby home track in Ohio. Get specs here

I'm sure there will be a lot of questions about which castings qualify for this race so please post them here in the thread so we can all see the answers.

Got a questions asking about Gov'nor - does not qualify. Yes, it's a fantasy casting in that it doesn't exist as a real world car but it's pretty tame in terms of being fantastic. Lets go beyond our comfort zone a little bit and see what creativity comes out the other end.

...and remember, you don't need to use an existing casting at all. You could create your own casting out of modeling clay or anything. Take one of your kid's tiny toys and glue it on...whatever...make it crazy.

I'm sure people have already thought of cramming a bunch of lead into a... Mine cart. Does that qualify as a fantasy car? I think it's just too easy if you ask me... Please advise...
I would to Mine Cart. A box on wheels if far from fantastic :)

Do these all make the cut?

Must of asked a hard question.
I'd say Yes to all of those.
HEEEEEYYYYYYY!!! COOL!! that heavy a55 gator car gets to race!!!!
Safe to say if the car looks like an animal, it qualifies. :)

Here's one that Voxxer Racing is working on...

Another Voxxer car in development..

I'd argue that's maybe not "fantasy" enough. Looks a lot like Bullet Nose and others.

I really wanted to build and give the Gov'Nor a shot... but in the spirit of this race... well this is taking shape on the workbench... beady eyed Croc Rod. It's a color changer to boot. getting it to 70g will be a challenge.

DONE, had to tube the rear axle..68G. Stuck it in the freezer for a "cold shot"

Just a reminder that, like all past Pro Series races, the only thing that has to follow the Fantasy theme is the body (top) of the car.

You can use any chassis/wheels you want.

So if you know the base of the Ford truck is fast, use it and then add a ridiculous body to the top.

Your entry doesn't have to be a matched set if you don't want it to.

If you ask about a car fitting the theme and I poo poo on the body style, just remember you can take the bottom and just find a different top.

Remember, if the body looks like a car, maybe try again...

So after rereading and rereading the rules this race sounds like another Monster pro race, just don't need three different parts to build the car.

I guess it's not far off. Mad Max was still about cars, this is the opposite. Or should be. Don't overthink it.

My car is on the way... Dropped in a few prize cars for the host, or whomever you see fit. Thanks for hosting Brian!!!

Groovy. I'll start making trips to the PO to collect incoming. Thx.
Car received.

@Voxxer - Just for Voxxer since his e-mail is apparently jacked...the chrome/orange car you mailed me about is good. Make it so.

Going to try to come up with something for this race. Gotta take a shot at knocking off the Voxxer - he's too hot right now.

YES!!! see ya trackside

Really wanted to make this baby into a racer, but it's just a bit too wide -afraid it might get caught up in the RedlineDerby start gate

Go Santa Go!

Hard to fit weights in this but it's time for a comeback!

I changed my mind. Noodle Lead!

Now that looks fast
even better...

Packed and ready to ship. Looks like a bird's nest.

Double Dragon on a Power Panel base

dressed in Bellingham orange... naturally.

This Double Dragon build is me experimenting with a split axle -four good wheels on four half axles (nickle).  It rolls straight and the wheels spin well, but it's a bit noisy on the track and doesn't coast the distance of some of my better builds.

Shipping out tomorrow

uh-oh... were you and JDC working together again?
Maybe, but I'm hoping Carl will carry this team. My dragon won't be breathing any fire

Is it just me, or does the Noodlehead look an awful lot like a car?

Certainly less fantastic than dragons...but at this point I'm done arguing.

Just a friendly reminder to get your cars out this week. I'll be making PO stops throughout the weekend and last one next Monday.

On another I was prepping my track for the run, I discovered the battery back in my finish line had a leaky battery and it no longer works. So while I plan on replacing the battery pack, I don't know if that's possible before I need to run the cars, sooo...

...the only alternative I have readily available is the classic Mattel V-Drop flag that I was using before I got all fancy. It still works and should be plenty for this tournament but wanted to get some thoughts from competitors first.

If we want to use the electronic finish line there's a chance the racing might not happen until after the holidays. If we go with the replacement, things will roll and get wrapped up as scheduled.

But nonetheless...please chime in...

I could ship mine to you if you'll return it after the race. I think it's the same one you use or close enough
Thanks for the offer but the cost of shipping isn't worth it. I'm not sweating it that much.
as long as we get a fair race... I'm good with the hosts decision.

When the finish gate at C4 broke, we had half a dozen spectators stand by the finish gate to determine the winner.

Car shipped today.  On the light side, only 65 g.    Voxxer

Car is in the mail, will be there Saturday.

My car will arrive on December 12.

Made a pickup on Friday and these cars are on campus. I'll do another pickup Monday and the race later in the week. Looks to be only a few entries so should be a quick run.

  • JDC442
  • Traction Event
  • Voxxer
Even with 3 more entries in the mail... small turn out. Bummer

My car should of been there by Saturday.  Post office folks said they have went to Holiday schedule and that could add a day to the schedule.

I'll update roster once I pickup on Monday.

Here is the official entry list for the Pro Series finale.

  • EconoCarl
  • Tracksurgeon
  • Aircooled
  • JDC442
  • Voxxer Racing
  • Traction Event

A small field, yes, but stacked with talent so it should be great from the get-go. Looks like there will be 2 byes. Here's the bracket:

I'm going to shoot for Wednesday night racing but if that falls through, then it'll be Friday or this weekend. I probably won't do any live posting or streaming since it'll be such a quick run. But I'll record and post some video highlights once it's all done.

And this will be run using the Mattel mechanical finish line. I wasn't able to repair the sensor finish in time. I did some test runs with the Mattel gate and it seems to perform just fine. If anything on race day looks off then I'll report it and rerun accordingly.

best of luck to all... roll em!

Race results ?

None yet. They'll get posted as soon as I have them.

Alright...without further adieu, your winner and first Redline Derby Racing Pro Series champion...

Voxxer Racing

Congratulations to Jon Soffa for his dominating performance all year long. His super engineered cars got the job done. Voxxer finishes the season with an incredible 240 points, 130 points ahead of the runner-up, Aircooled. Voxxer Racing receives a trophy for his mantle as well as the prize payout.

You can check out the final standings and see results from all tournaments

I'll put together a video of the final racing soon and get it posted. Until then, here is the bracket sheet or here's the online bracket.

Otherwise, I can't thank everyone for their support over the past year for this series. It was an experiment to see if a year-long series was viable. To all the participants, thank you, great job. To all the hosts, super duper thank you, I appreciate all the work and time you put in to keep it going. I hope everyone had fun building cars, racing cars and watching cars.

There won't be a Pro Series for 2017 but it could come back for 2018. I'm thinking every other year could be a good pattern. It would give us all time to learn from our experiences and make things better for the next time.

As we close out the year, I hope everyone enjoyed 2016 here at Redline Derby Racing. There were some ups and there were some downs, but no matter what there was fun to be had and great racing all around.

This was a terrific event, Brian. Thanks for all you do to organize these races.
Congratulations to Jon on a dominating year of racing!

Noodle Lead doesn't cut it on this one. Were the axles loose?

Yes. Something wasn't right inside there, the car didn't even make it to the finish.
USPS must've crushed my car. It was running perfectly fine before I sent it out.

Is there a photo of the Champs car for this race? I was hoping my Croc Rod would put up a fight, but not from the losers bracket.

Brian summed it up, nice job winning the Pro series. Dedicated effort, and solid performances throughout the year.

I'll get some photos up with the video. Just wanted to get results up.
Great racing, Chris. Can't wait to see the Croc Rod in action.

Congratulations Jon, on winning the Pro Series Title!!!  Being my first time racing Hot Wheels I found it to be a lot of fun for sure.  You are the man to beat no matter what the venue!!!  Well Done!!!!

Congratulations to you as well, Richard. You held the lead through two events and built some monster cars.

Noodle Lead in a nutshell:

Thank You, Redline Derby, for a year of great racing !!

Way to dominate!

Congrats to Voxxer for the Pro Series win! I really like the special axles you use on your mods and the sense of racing ingenuity!

Have the cars been mailed out?

No. Hopefully later this week. I'll post when I do, fear not.

Hi all,

Justed posted the new Hot 64 Episode, which gives a wrap up of the ProSeries. Thanks to all of you for the great racing this year. It's been a blast to watch. Looking forward to more great races in 2017.

Thanks! Voxxer, did that Turbolence ever race in another event? Would love to see it in action.
No tother race for the Turbolence, however, that mistake, made me better.

I'm finally getting around to wrapping up cars for their return trips home. Sorry for the long delay, holidays and all...

Here are some parting shots of the entrants.

Traction Event & Voxxer Racing

EconoCarl & Aircooled

Tracksurgeon & JDC442

I'll make another quick post once cars are in the mail and can PM tracking numbers.

nice rides, Aircooled running narrowed wheels...better watch this guy...

Cars were shipped out this past weekend. Entrants should have gotten PMs with tracking link.

Mine arrived today. Thanks for all you do Brian!
Arrived on Tuesday in a nice blister card. Thank you for the race!

If it wasn't official before, it is now. Voxxer Racing is the champ.

Nice hardware

Congratulations Jon, on your championship!!!   You are the guy to catch for sure.
