Race format and scoring

Grid Formation Tournament Rules:

We will be using our own Grid Formation Tournament rules.  This has been updated to a combination of GRID-6 plus GRID-4/6.  There will be a Grid of 18 cars.  For GRID-6, the Grid will be split into 3 Groups of 6 car each (P1 - P6, P7 -12, P13 - P18).  These are referred to as Group 1 (Lead Pack), Group 2 (Middle Pack), and Group 3 (Last Pack).  There is a total of 5 Laps.  Each Group goes down the track once for the 1st Lap.  Any cars that DNF are moved to the back of the Last Group and the cars move up from the 2nd Group and Last Group to fill any spots that have opened up by cars that DNF.  This way cars move up and down the 3 Groups.  To add to the ability to move up the Groups even without counting on DNFs by other cars ahead of you, each even numbered lap will be a GRID-4/6 formation.  For GRID-4/6, the Grid will be split into 4 Groups of 4 + 6 + 6 + 2 cars (P1 - P4, P5 - P10, P11 - P16, P17 - P18).  The winner is the 1st car across the line from the Lead Pack on the final Lap, Lap 5.  See our Season 1 Event to see how GRID-6 (without GRID-4/6) works.

RULES UPDATE:  August 8th 2023

Race Finish under Red Flag conditions:

After the Grand Prix of of Illinois ended under Red Flag conditions, the FDRL ruling body and F$ organizers have approved the Race Finsih under Red Flag conditions rule.  It has been decided that if a race ends (Lap 5) under Red Flag conditions the drivers will regroup and run an additional final lap (Lap 6) in the GRID-4/6 (4+6+6+2 Grid Formation) format.

Red Flag conditions are when one or more of the cars in the Lead Group crashes (upside down) and/or one or more cars are held up by a car that DNFs the lap. The Lead Lap should complete the last lap with a clean run or at least no crashes or DNFs that hold up other cars unfairly.
In the case of a Red Flag final lap, an additional 6th Lap is run in GRID 4/6 format by reforming all cars on Lap 5 based on the rules. Cars that crossed the line first, followed by cars that DNF in order of DNF from bottom of track to the top. Cars that crash out of the race are removed from the race.

Points Awarded:

Teams/Drivers are only awarded points at the end of the 5th Lap.  Same as F1, 25 points for 1st, 18 points for 2nd, 15 points for 3rd, 12 points for 4th, 10 points for 5th, 8 points for 6th, 6 points for 7th, 4 points for 8th, 2 points for 9th, and 1 point for 10th.  No points for 11th to 18th.  There is a bonus 2 points for getting Pole Position at the start of the race and 1 point for fastest Lap during the race (as long as you also finish in the top 10).  Note that Drivers/Cars must cross the finish line on the last lap in order to receive points for the race event.

Qualifying & Race:

Each race venue will have a Qualifying Session to determine starting positions for the race.  Each Driver will get two qualifying runs.  Teams with two cars will be allowed to qualify both cars and choose the one that qualifies with the best time.  Only the top 18 cars will qualify for the race out of the 24 registered Drivers/Teams.  The race will consist of 5 laps with the GRID-6 | GRID-4/6 | GRID-6 | GRID-4/6 | GRID-6 race format.
