Easy weight add modification...Ferrari 458 Italia
I was working on some new cars last night and thought I would do a little easy step by step how to.
This is taking an already fast car, the Ferrari 458 Italia FTE and adding a little weight to make it a tad quicker!
You will need a drill (or dremel), some modeling clay and some 5 min. epoxy.
First, drill out the rivets and pop the body off the chassis.
Here you will see that there is a lot of space inside the car, between the interior and the chassis.
You can take some clay and squish (technical term) it into the little recesses and pockets under the interior.
Also place it into recesses in the chassis, put a little at a time and push the parts together to make sure they don't interfere with the wheels or axles or squish out everywhere.
When you're done, then simply put the car back together, use the epoxy to hold the chassis to the body studs.
Viola! A real downhill screamer!

Nice thing about the clay is you can test the car and add or remove the clay as you test it
I got almost a full car length on a stocker
Now watch out for the Ferrari California FTE!
I would think that the clay would mess with the wheels some how no? What brand and type of clay is this? I never have done a mode but really want to... Is there a special tool and rivet replacements everyone is using?
I keep the clay clear of the wheels.
This is just normal kids play clay, I think it's Crayola I got at the grocery store for my oldest boy.
Some people drill out the body studs and put little screws in to put the cars back together.
I just put it all back together then dab some quick set epoxy where the rivets were.
Hey Jobe, hope you don't mind but I republished this how-to over in the blog. I can't believe I hadn't already posted about the virtues of clay. Way to pick up my slack

I have never heard about that either. Pretty easy way to have
fun and modify cars! Safe for kids to do too!
Nice job on the blog there Brian...glad I could help.
Great how-to, Jobe, thanks! Great pictures too.
I've found clay to be a great way to easily add weight. I used clay in my modded Mustang that I sent to Texas. It wasn't enough added weight to really help but I know from my tests it did help...just not enough in that case.
And just remember, putting the weight in the trunk is where it'll do the most good.

And as if the 458 needed to be any faster!!
