Keep Them Coming Back!
I read a post the other day, about someone here who stated that people were loosing interest in racing at his track. And I thought I would ask the collective here, what do you do, or what needs to be done to keep people coming back for monthly races? How do we keep the excitement alive, and the racers coming back and inviting their friends to come to Hot Wheels Races? I'm listening

My opinion? If you want repeat competitors you gotta "keep it positive & friendly". Competition can do funny things to people...even on a 'hobby level'. You must encourage enviroment, they'll keep bringing them back and possibly become involved themselves. Also, there should be FUN for everyone.

Thanks...but not really. Let's just say that I've experienced the bad side of competitive hobbies too often and I now try to avoid them at all costs.
Are you freakin' serious?

ummm...If you're asking about the bad side of competitive hobbies, yes. Try sanctioned R/C nitro truck racing @ a National event w/a sponsor-funded pot & 'scouts' in the stands...I assure you, NASCARs pits are "friendlier". Never again.

Sounds like fun to me!
I think you need to give racers a long term goal. Make sure there are point standings and trophies to earn at the end of the racing season. That way people will keep coming back month after month as it is all about consistency.
Also, don't be afraid to mix up the classes/rules from year to year. In our league, I was seeing kids classes getting dominated by kids that had access to the older all metal cars. A solution that I proposed, outlaw them there and we started up a Heavy Metal class. Even though this penalized my boys, I felt it was better to keep the kids that are just trying it out the first time. This year we have seen some people win that have never won before.
Have classes that are not all about speed. One of our most popular is the last car to cross the finish line to win. It is very challenging to find a car that just inches its way across and then stops. If you do find one, the next race it may stop just short of the finish line and then it is out.
that is the question... for some the newness wears off, some HAVE to win and are upset when they don't, another is when there are lots of other things for the racers to try.
