Multi-purpose Track

I'm getting an area, though it is small to build a permanent track. So my idea is to build a standard drag strip, only 12 ft. or so, that has an open track road race track as a return track. Does this sound like a good idea? First track so I'm a real newb. Thanx

I think things like a return lane are just icing on the cake. It's important you nail down your start, finish and everything inbetween. Awesome that you'll have a dedicated space, wish I had such a luxury.

Would your track be segments or seamless? Depending on just how permanent your space is, you might want to try to track down some seamless track. It's most certainly the best method for orange track but I know constant packing and unpacking of that type of track can be a hassle, let alone storage. And if you only have 15-feet or less of space, a single roll of seamless could almost offer you 4 lanes.

Can't wait to see your build as it progresses! Make sure you take photos as you build, unlike me who tends to only take photos when it's all done.

ALso I usually pick up my track just to keep the dust off. I suppose you could cover it up as well.

i made some connectors... they are the overall dimentions of the purple conns... but they are solid, no nubs so when you insert it past 1 inch it causes the track to shift slightly and it narrows the siderails.... push the conn. into the upper section 2" and the lower 1" and there should not be any "hang ups" i sent a couple to T.L.D.... did they work out ok T.L.D. ?

Do you have any more of these wonderous connectors? I'd like to try some. I can send you some cash for shipping if you need.

Yeah, that address will work. Sounds like you got a good thing there...you should setup shop and sell em. Or let Redline Derby be an exclusive seller

Always good to have spare connectors laying around. Yea, interested.

did they work out ok T.L.D. ?

Those things work great!

When I was looking to set up my track and go a longer distance...long story short, those connectors go for like a buck a piece on Ebay. and there's plenty of people selling strips of track without connectors...of course the track is next to useless without connectors...I figired a few different times, "I'll just make my own", well that;s a lot easier said than done.

Nice work Smitty. Thank you.

Sure...I track test almost everything on this type of coarse. The w-i-d-e track has a habit of exposing poorly balanced cars. I've found that if a car runs fast & consistent on track.

I know EXACTLY what your saying. Once you've done some toying in the open track world you start to get a sense of which cars will perform well. Balanced weight distribution, long wheel base, and straight shooting axels are KEY.
