Are You Chicken ?

Now that I have revised this event I am going to run it next year.  Plenty of time to get ready.

This time stock cars will be allowed.  No use wrecking a car you put a lot of effort into.

No cars over 80 grams.

Car length 4.5 inches so you can add stuff.  Width must fit on orange track

                                 >>>>>>>Complete Race Revision<<<<<<<

Okay instead of having the cars running on 2 separate tracks, the cars run on the same track , like a game of Chicken.....

The point is to knock your opponent off the track and get by him.

Do you add a battering ram?

Do you build a ramp to flip him over you?

Or half a ramp to roll him off to one side?

Or a dangerous spike.

There will be a midway line.

IF your car ends up further past the midway line then you win a point.

If your car lands right side up you get a point.

If your opponent is not right side up you win a point.

If you end up on the track you win a point.

You get a point for furthest past the midway line even if you are off the track.

Ideas , feedback and giggles please.

Ha, I like that - Car Jousting...sounds like a good chance to play with some serious weight. I'd suggest just having two weight classes, under 50g and over 50g.

Although coordinating the cars releasing at the same time would be a challenge...sounds like a 2-person job, or a very complex system of strings ;P

  • Glad you like it. Under 50 over 50 sounds interesting. — Stroller

After this and the "Junk Drawer War" idea, I would seriously reconsider passing off my NASCAR idea-or any idea of mine, for that matter--as "silly"...ha-ha-ha.  I like it, though!  You'd have to get the pencils at just the write angle, and have them STRONGLY adhered to the car.  Perhaps another way to do it would be to install little pads on the front bumpers (though that might take away from the "jousting" aspect).  You'd also have to make sure the floor was perfectly level.

I take it stockers would be allowed in this one?  Ha-ha-ha!  Make the weight limit a little bigger and I've got some 120+ gram MBX Disney Tour Buses that could do a pretty good job!

Oh, and another idea to branch off this one: have the cars play football.  Get two of those six-lane tracks and send down teams of six--whoever's team does better overall wins.

I could do that, if I got a six-laner for myself...I could use that and the LJLRC's.  I might follow through on that!

For now, though, I'll have to get to work on customizing a pencil and adapting it to something fast yet durable (or at least aggressive };D).

Also, are you going to make a limit to how far over fifty a car can be in the second class--or size limits for the car--or does this have the potential to get REALLY brutal?  (Either way's good with me, but being a Columbian Squire "Lancer" myself, I want to be sure of what sort of warrior I ought to be preparing here).

As I said above I probably won't run this one and no rules are actually set....

...size limits for the car--or does this have the potential to get REALLY brutal?

There would almost have to be size limit just to fit within starting gates, etc...probably host-dependent.

And I hope this leads to lots of brutality :) Going in knowing that your car might not come out alive at all ups the stakes and means more personal payoff in the end.

Was also thinking that you'd want to standardize the distance between the parallel tracks...like total width being 3-tracks wide. This way the pencil lance could be of some length rather than a tiny little stub.

Dunno...would just have to experiment with the distance to see what feels right and allows for good lance length without tipping the cars over by default.

Another idea--to add to brutality and risk--would be to have the tracks set up on a narrow table, so that if a car got knocked off the track, it would be more likely to get DAMAGED.  };D  In the same way, I don't understand the rules about removing windows or prohibiting lances entering the driver's compartment (though how you worded that part didn't make much sense); having it hit the driver would CERTAINLY be brutal--and if the windows aren't there, how can they be expected to get cracked?

  • I took it the lance cannot be sticking out through the driver's window — redlinederby
  • RLD got it right.. — Stroller
  • And if your opponent's goes through there, you lose--presumably because the driver got killed? Not a bad idea... — FOTF
  • ...just that given the variety of vehicle sizes, brute force seems like more of a thing to go by. — FOTF
