Bet this has not happened to you at Wal Mart
I was at Wal Mart today. While in line with only one person in front of me with only a few items, I soon began thinking I was in the wrong line because it was moving incredible slow. I got up to the check out with my mind wondering, not paying attention and the cashier lady said, "Do you customize and race these"?.
"I do as a matter of fact". I said, surprised.
She said, "There's another guy that comes in here and buys the same stuff, and that's what he does. I think his name is Mike. He works at the Casino".
I was buying one Hot Wheel, one Matchbox, a little bag of fishing weights, a quart of oil and a can of engine degreaser.

hope you have non-hot wheels plans for the oil and degreaser
I did, but now I'm wondering what Mike does with them!
That's awesome...I get asked if I collect them...I say no...I race 'em!
That is a rare occurance!
Sounds to me like Hot Wheel modding is going mainstream...I mean, if the cashier at Walmart can spy the traits of a customizer, then that's big time. Which means it's time to find a new hobby... ;P
Yep, Way too trendy now.
better back off the throttle boys, or are you really going to change your life because of what the wallmart checkout girl thinks.... cut those little rascals up !
I ran across an out-of-town "collector" looking through all of the pegs at our local HEB last Friday. He couldn't believe that we took 'em out of the package. Good thing was I didn't have to look through all of the cars, I just asked him what was there! A little later at Walmart I met a guy and his son looking at Hot Wheels. He thought racing was a great idea. I told him of this website, hope he finds his way here!
I used to buy tons of Hot Wheels back in the 90's. Eventually I ended up with a bunch of boxes of un opened Hot Wheels in storage. You know, 15 years worth. A couple years ago I started giving bunches away to Toy Drives and stuff at Christmas time.
A few months ago, maybe about four months ago I started sorting through them to keep the ones I really wanted and was planning to get rid of most the rest of them one way or another. That's around the time I found this site. Now I'm back buying Hot Wheels again, but mostly because I'm looking for wheels or bodies or chassis to customize and race. I cannot imagine buying a Hot Wheel anymore and not opening it, and using it in some way.
I laugh to myself now when I open up some 20 year old Hot Wheel and immediately take a Dremel tool to it and start cutting.
Also my daughter has just turned three and has a great time playing with tracks and cars. Funny thing is she has come to the conclusion that she doesn't even want to play with the slow ones or the ones that don't perform well. She has fun picking them out at the store too. She has a good eye for picking cars I wouldn't even consider, but do surprisingly well.
i wonder if MIKE bets on his hot wheels ?.... hope you have non-hot wheels plans for the oil and degreaser....
