Color Shifters have metal chassis

I bought a Color Shifter car for my kid and noticed it had a metal chassis and plastic body (for the magic paint or whatever). The one I had was a Charger SRT which I know exists in non-metal chassis form in my stash somewhere.

I don't usually pay attention to the color changers since they're $4 a pop but if you're looking for a metal chassis to fit a metal body from another car, check them out - it should be a 1-to-1 fit if it's the same car. It won't be a cheap car by that point, but could be a winner. Metal + Metal + FTE = Win?

careful, most re-releases change little things so as not to interchange parts !

When I bought the "BooBerry"  might rig for the metal body/ metal frame, I figured, heck, just jb weld the 5 spokes to a metal frame from the red plastic bodied mig rig.....

Nope, had some more work to do. Lol, and the chrome innerds/engine/truck bed bay was somehow different. They were slightly off and could not be interchanged.

I do agree with both of you RLD and M40F, a GREAT THEORY, if only they matched perfectly every time.

We should start a thread, stating which metal on metal , plastic on metal, plastic on plastic, metal on plastic bases match up and can be interchanged easily.

I think it has a lot to do with the useless peg hidden inside some parts to add weight to the cars in some cases.

Probably, though, it's the difference in thickness of the two materials causing slight alterations in the casting thickness of the rest of the pieces. Right down to the clear winsheilds etc. ( I couldn't swap the winders from the red plastic mig rig to the the blue and white metal body either).

Buuuuuuuuuuuttttttt, if nothing else, we be a crafty bunch.... We'll figger out a way!!!!

It's what makes this an awesome way to spend some free time, and be able to point, smile, and say... " Look it!!, I figgered out how to build that!!"

Well that's a bummer, although I'd think that taking say the CS Charger chassis and adding it to a mainline Charger body would be easier than finding some other car to be a donor.

Good idea on the chassis/body swap guide. I know Smitty did some photos of chassis...like an catalog for reference but I it looks like those photos disappeared. You still have them somewhere, Smitty?

Not to worry, I'm sure ( at least in my case, anyways) part of the problem has been not drilling enough of the rivet equally on both cars. I like to leave a little, so I can snap it back together and check for progress, look, stance etc. When I mix them, or have to start over with a different base, they never go together.

I'm sure whatever problem we come across, there is a simple, often clever solution just around the corner. If not, set it aside, and rip into another project. When you get back to it, it all falls into place!!
