Mailing options

Just curious how other racers mail their entries. I wrap my cars in bubble wrap, place it in a small cardboard box and then mail it in a 10"x6" bubble mailer. I know it's overkill and would much rather just mail it in the small cardboard box, but in order to fit the shipping label I use the bubble mailer as well. Anyone have a more efficient and less "overkill" way of doing it? Opening my cars is in all likelihood a big pain in the ass for the race host, lol. Thanks!

I'm a big fan of the folks who use the small, hard plastic containers you can find at craft stores...you can get them in a single (which holds roughly 2 cars), or larger thread holders that can store numerous cars separate by dividers.......the latter actually helps me store your cars prior to racing

on a separate note, I highly prefer packaging that I can easily reuse to return cars......the small envelope mailers are a pita to try to do that with

Not really. My way is even more overkill ;)

i put them in bubble wrap. Then into a small plastic box that i get from butter or something else, then i put them in a bigger package with a lot of paper around the box in the package. We all know how rough the packages are handled sometimes.

and than i hope that they'll arrive at time and without dammages after they travelled a few thousand kilometer ;)

I've always used a small plastic container.  Currently getting them at Dollar Tree.  If you have access to the foam from an old mattress, sofa cushion, or the like it can easily be cut with a razor knife into pieces that completely surround your car.

As a side note, I have had packages arrive at tracks and home damaged and/or missing the contents.  As a result I now tape my plastic container or containers closed and place in a large zip lock with the race entry form and an additional mailing label.

From there it's into whatever flat rate package my local post office has available.  I've had similar success/fail rates with small boxes v bubble envelopes.

One of my go-to's for shipping? A Tic Tac container will fit two cars tightly if you wrap them up. I also like putting something between the wheels like a piece of coroplast or foam so that if the car is dropped, the shock will be transferred into the solid frame of the car instead of the fragile wheels and axles.

  • I'd have to buy it and dump the tic tacks out...lol I have been recycling cases from 1/87 scale stuff for my good cars at home... — dr_dodge

For the truck to be shipped to gravity's truck race,

the plan was to make a "pool noodle case" (just short chunk, cut in half)
in a tube with end plugs

also, the race track owners have said return shipping is, well,....

y'all know what SASE is?
self addressed stamped envelope

what about a double container, one to get to the race,
and another that already has our return address on it

maybe a pic of the car inside a box flap,
in case things get confusing

just brain stormin'

and thanks to lily for bringing this up
