Hello,

I am newly retired due to 6 back operations and a triple bypass. I started watching youtube videos and was amazed at the creativeness of Dungeon and Dragons players. I learned a lot about sculpting and creating stuff but I didn't want to play D&D.

Then I came across 3D Botmaker and knew immediately this is it. Like watching Belushi in The Blues Brothers getting hit by the light of GOD. We did this as kids growing up but with HO cars. And I still have my HO car. It was a green volkswagon with a big flower on the roof. That was the first thing to go.

You can still see the green paint on the hood. So The first car I made sure to get was a hot wheels Herbie. The Love Bug ovie still holds up today and as a grandparent I just showed it to the twins and they loved it.

The next was designing the track. I wanted it to go from the mountains to the beach. I painted many bikini clad figures. My wife thinks I'm crazy cause I paint a lighter flesh color on the bottom of the feet. It makes them look more tan. Anyway I am a huge fan of Ken Adams and Frank Loyd Wright so in their style I started to design my announcers booth.

And so it begins....

WOW. That's a great start....  Welcome to the addiction!

  • I can definitely see the Frank Lloyd Wright design in that. Zamak & I are both in Wisconsin. You know....House on the Rock. — Dutch_Clutch_Racing
  • Thank you, I took the tour of his first houses in Illinois. When he was a apprentice he was designing houses — LordSyosset

That booth is amazing. Can't wait to see what you come up with for the rest! Keep us posted on your build!

  • Thank you, I will have an updated picture of it soon. The rest of the Legend to the track will be part Twighlight Zone, Hotel California, Shangrila. I like when there are stories woven in to the races. 3D bot maker and cousin Ricky adds something a little bit more. I have worked up a legend to my track that I hope is different. — LordSyosset

wow, that is very cool!
welcome to the hobby! (again...lol)

I like that you went from concept art to actual

very nice work

dr

This is awesome work. You Sir are an artist. I recently learned of Frank Lloyd Wright while helping my 2nd grader choose a unique building for a school project.  My home town actually has one of the only homes he designed in Florida (IIRC), and your booth does have elements of it. Can't wait to see where this goes.

  • That's Great! I went on the tour of his first houses in Illinois. His son's house is here in CA. Very bizarre. — LordSyosset
  • Ken Adams just had a book out. Show your son the Blofeld HQ in the Volcano. — LordSyosset

Very nice! It certainly fits in with the Oasis theme!

UPDATE on the track build.

Thank you all for the responses and the encouragement to keep going.

The past year since I jumped in I started by designing and building my track to hopefully one day join the other mad bastards in this hobby and host some races. All of the Track building sets are crafted from scratch, learning from D&D guys who are some of the most talented and creative next to Rail Road set guys. Oh and I don't have the money for the buildings. My budget went to figures, cars, figures, track parts, figures, crafting supplies and taxes, %$#@! TAXES!

So The desert is where I wanted to start and go through an old Fort Entrance and into a western ghost town. The entrance to my track is based on the Arizona Arches. I finished the front and I am going to add more bleecher seats to the sides on the back. The middle area upstairs will be a bar area and more seating on the outside above. This should tie in with the announcer's booth. The Rock is carved pink board. The cactus is just sculpey painted up. The palm trees I bought. Except the bent one on the right, it was a pain to make and took too long. NEXT UP: GARAGES

The Garages:

Here's what I have so far. This is just part of the Garage/Bleechers/Overwalk(?) building finishing line. The crosswalk will stretch over the finishing lineand down to the parking lot area in front of the beach. Yeah, beach, don't ask. The biggest problem is space, I noticed other garages had many ports.I figured I had about four ports to work with. I wanted to have many different teams. I solved this by putting tin above the doors and framing it with foam board. Then I printed out different teams and glued them to magnetic paper. This allows me to switch out as many teams as I need. The roof comes off, connected with magnets as is the bleechers. These are life savers. I will be able to light the garages. I can drop different garage backgrounds into the garage slots. The over pass will be remade. This one is horrible. I will build up the side area entrance and exit. I started watching a youtube channel, Chandwell. These english guys, God bless em when it comes to crafting.  I will be looking more at it when I design my city.

NEXT: TENTS.

Very creative, good one!

TENTS: The store bought tents a very expensive, did I mention the figures? So I redesigned my own. No tent poles, easy to make, a couple of folds, glue, sturdy, done. I printed out Images and made about 5 of these. One for the Marines racing team also. This was for the Munsters. There was a special episode that featured the Barris vehicles. I bought the series very cheap at Walmart. Some images are online.

I might as well show you the freeway signs, These were great fun. Designing the billboards and coming up with them. I have some of those Ad signs like the South of the Border on 95. One was Double G diecast, great figs, low prices and very dependable. Also he throws in a few figures too. I have found some rare figs. Kennedy and Jackie, The Wolfman and victim, The Fly, Lethal Weapon cops, check him out. Ebay and Etsy.  Anyway he sends buttons and stickers with every order. So I decided to give him some publicity and help my track. I decided on Bettie Page and a black ,white and red billboard. I would use the buttons to uh, grab the racer's attentions. The giant sticker was screaming to be a billboard. I did find a Colt Seavers (Lee Majors) figure and I was painting him up and heard a story he told about the Fall Guy Theme. The producers wanted to change Farrah's name and he said "No." So I guess she was on my mind and my bedroom wall when I was a kid. So the greatest selling poster had to become a billboard.

The last thing is a tribute to Jungle Pam. (Look her up, you'll thank me later.) This will be down by the tents and parking lot. I did find a well endowed figure I have to paint up. So it's back to planning, sketching, building and sculpting. And coming up with a story line to this whole thing. When you've had enough of painting, switch to sculpting, planning but keep doing. I learned "concentrate the details at the Finishing line and the Starting line." that's where the cameras will concentrate the most.

I have a few city pieces, nothing big, a subway entrance, a bus stop and a news stand. the city is slowly being planned. Helluva lot more to go.

I hope these took your minds off the hurricane for a while. G'nite and God Bless.

Really incredible work, top to bottom. Can't wait to see your vids!

  • yea, we waitin' — dr_dodge
  • Speaking of, I have been at this a year, A lot of work and I haven't even started the track. It is all planned out in sketches and in my head. nothing too hard, 1st time and all. So any estimates on how long a track takes to build. just the skeleton, testing and retesting. Average time 3 months? — LordSyosset
  • more $$$ spent = less time, so with my cashflow, I'll have a great track in around 2050...lol — dr_dodge
