Redline Outlaws...Top 10 list

Hi Guys,

I had an idea the other day that I wanted to get some feedback on. Chances are that you all have at least heard of the show 'Street Outlaws'...about street racers in Oklahoma. Yeah, the drama is all fabricated, but the cars on the show are pretty darned quick cars...and I like the idea of the top 10 list.

What I was thinking was this: I'll run a "Top 10 Outlaw Race" on my drag track. Any type of car, any wheels, Normal sizes (1.3" x 3.5" x Orange track wide), and 57 (2 oz) and under (just to try to save the release pins on my track). It doesn't matter if it is modded or stock...if you think you have a fast car, send it!

And here's the twist...when your car makes the top 10, it will stay with me until it gets bumped off the list (or, you can just ask for it back, but then it will be off the list). And, after the top 10 is established, if you think you have a fast car, and you want to have a go at the list, just send it to me. It will race the number 10 car first, and if it wins, it will race it's way up the list. And, chances are, I'll run Top 10 update races every couple of months to keep the list fresh.

Of course the top 10 cars would all be photographed and posted here...and I'm working on getting some cool video work going.

The Rules:

-Any style car. It had to start life as a 1/64 scale toy car (I don't want a block of milled aluminum with bearings for wheels). Matchbox, Hot Wheels, Johnny Lightning, etc...all brands okay

-Can be modded (drilled rivets) or stock

-65 grams and under

-1.3" high max. 3.5" long max, and fits on an Orange track wide

-With the first series, the Top 10 cars will be established by the points. the cars making the List (in the top 10) will remain with me until until it is bumped off the list (or, the owner requests it back...but, when sent back, it comes off the List).

-List Challenges - The number 10 car is the 'Gatekeeper' and every challenge will start there. A challenge car will first race the #10 car, and if it wins, the #10 will be bumped from the list and the challenge car will then race the #9 car, and so on. The challenges will be posted on RedLineDerby.com

-A person will be allowed 4 attempts at the list per month (And since most cars will not make the list, I encourage challengers to include return postage, or one, un-opened Hot Wheels, 'Prize' car per challenge car).

-A person will only be allowed to have 2 cars on the list at any one time.

-I, 72_Chevy_C10, will be the 'RaceMaster' for the Top 10 list...my decisions are final. If you have a question, please contact me directly (PM me). I will try to be as fair as I possibly can.

-A top 10 car, will get a Redline Outlaw sticker placed on it

-Every few months, there will be a series of races, on different tracks to keep the List fresh. Challenge races will all take place on my Drag Track

-The first Race will start February 6th (qualifying) with the race taking place on the 7th. I will need hosts for this series

Let's keep this fun, Guys...spread the word to everyone you think would be interested!

Chris

New builds? Old Race cars?

Doesn't have to be new builds. I'd kinda like it to be, if you think you have a fast car (modded or stock), here's your chance to prove it!

Also, it the car makes the list, then it might be there for a while...so, be sure that it is a car that you wouldn't mind having in a cabinet above my race track for a while! Or, until it gets bumped off!

Kinda a 'Run what ya brung...and hope you brung enough!' deal!

No real limits other than weight and dimensions!

I know you've got some cars to run against that Green Javelin! :)

I could maybe do something cool for the Top 10 cars...make a 'Redline Outlaw" decal to put on the cars to show that they made the list. Maybe a Tee Shirt design for the Top car owner? Bumper Sticker...Coffee Mug?

Just throwing out ideas!

:)

Might want to bump up the weight limit...if you want to include the fast BWF Camaros...

Your show your rules...just trying to include everyone.

I'm more into mods so this may not be for me.

  • I don't want to run my modded against stock...make tw0 classes maybe... — Stroller
  • C'mon, Stroller! Okay, let's face it; you probably couldn't beat a stocker--but Romanator might! — FOTF

Man, this is an awesome idea!  The top ten mail-in cars (within the size restrictions) in the country!

I couple ideas I want to add--do what you will with them:  1, have the cars move from track to track (which is interesting but not necessarily practical); 2, allow cars with long-term unchallenged cars beneath them to return home--if the owner wishes--until needed (for example, if numbers 1, 2, and 3 have all been unbeat for some time, let 1 and 2 go home until they're needed to compete again).

57, 65, 75--any number's good with me (though I'll admit it'd be interesting to see how the BWFs stacked up against the fastest mods of their weight class--the latter weights would surely allow for the most of the fastest of stock cars).

You could give stickers to all ten; but ESPECIALLY to #1!  A car never wants to forget that achievement!

Do you think it would be better to receive cars one at a time, or to try to get, like, six in at a time, and have a sixteen-car tournament between them and the Top Ten (or twenty-two at a time if you've got a while)?

  • I'll try to come up with a good number of cars to be allowed at a time. I want everyone to be able to take shot at the list! — 72_Chevy_C10

The heaviest Hot Wheels I can think of... Probe, Funny Cars 70g. BWF Camaro 61g?

Keep the thoughts coming...I'm pretty sure that this will be happening in the new year.

65 grams will include the BWF Camaros and shouldn't cause too many release problems on the drag track.

I think it would be best to keep something like this centralized at one track most of the time (if you want to send in challenge cars, you could send them.in whenever that way). But, every few months, send the cars around to different tracks to shake things up.

Run what ya brung!

  • I'll run my caddy v16 fte with the bwf camaro. I haven't weighted it but if its light I'm sure I can fix that. Call it a super stocker. — FatMike
  • Bring it on! Fatten that Cadillac up and make it a bruiser! — FOTF

That's about the Camaro's weight.  The only things I can think of that would really be heavier than the F/Cs would be those (Peterbilt?) Oil Tankers, but I've only seen two race and one win.  But I'd forgotten about the Dragtrack's issues with heavier cars (and sometimes F/Cs in particular), so you're right, 72 Chevy--probably not over 65 or 70.

One other idea would be to have "Top 16--or 8--Outlaws."  Obviously, Top Ten sounds better, but this might make the numbers easier to manage. Especially at eight.

Okay--a couple more considerations to take in:

How many cars can a person send in at once (if we're going to limit the number of newcomers rach time)?  Also, how many cars can any one person have in the Top 8/10/16?

What is the type/are the dimensions of your track?  I saw that you mentioned having an orange track on the Fast 4WD thread, but from the talk about guide pins I thought you were talking about Dragtracks.

Oh--and will you be able to get videos?  THAT would be cool.

I'll try to get the rules for this one nailed down and posted tomorrow...I'm thinking of having a limit of 4 attempts at the list person, per month...and one person can't have more than 2 cars in the top ten at any given time...sound good?

And, if people are going to be taking regular shots at the list (which I hope they do), I think that it would be cool if they threw a few bucks in for return shipping (or, if you wanted to throw in unopened, 'prize' cars, that would work too).

With thst being said, I'm pretty sure I'll have the first race in February,  after the Sedan race. I'll post details tomorrow.

Thanks Guys!

Chris

  • A person can try four and get a maximum of two in? Sounds good! I look forward to to Round 1! — FOTF
  • I'll start feeding my caddy it high carb diet so it will be fattened up by then. — FatMike
  • Hand it a Carbonator or two! — FOTF
