Now I know November is a ways off...but like Corvette Summer, it will be here before you know it. Also, this is Tobacco Road's Premiere Event of the year and you'll want to find and build your best cars for this...so I'm throwing out this pre-race premise so everyone can put it on the schedule/radar as we close out the 2018 racing season. The only change from last year is in the Modified Division will drop weight from 65g to 57g...that way it will be easier for some castings to get up to weight. Also, the cars will be due the Saturday before Veteran's Day Weekend so we can start racing Friday night of Veteran's Day Weekend( November 9th)...that Saturday is November 4th.

Also, we really don't care how big the field is for this race as it's in Honor of all our Veteran's across the RLD and Diecast Community and beyond. Last year one of our own Vet's...Mopar Mafia I believe called this one a "Major" on the racing calender...which the more I think of it, is a good way to describe American Muscle on Tobacco Road. Also, some we're really bummed they missed out on American Muscle 1...well, this premise is to remind everyone of what's coming to Tobacco Road this November...Legends of Tobacco Road-American Muscle 2.

Now, start planning and get ready my RLD Brethren...you don't want to miss this Premiere Event on Tobacco Road, and the Official Race thread will be posted September 1st.

The “Canada Gang” will be there in full force.

Just a Heads-Up from a planning standpoint...the Cut-Off for Corvettes is the "80's Corvette" or the first body style of the Gen4 Corvette and this year I'm going to let the Shelby Cobra into the legal castings category.

The Classic American Muscle Cars...55-57 Chevy...the usual suspects from the 60's and 70's...the Corvette cuts off at the "80's Vette" for after that they got more in the Gran Touring/Super Car category. Then modern Mustangs, Camaros, Chargers and Challengers are acceptable as well.

  • Oh ok thank you for the clearing that up — NDeavers80
  • ....modern Mustangs, Chargers, Camaros and Challengers are acceptable — LeagueofSpeed
  • we'll be there — Mopar_Mafia

Ok can my '16 Ford GT enter?

  • No...that car does not qualify as a Muscle Car — LeagueofSpeed

Ok how about these: Dodge Dart, Impala & Ford Ranchero, ford mustang gt, & camaro zl1?

  • All good except the Impala and the Ranchero — LeagueofSpeed
  • Camaro ZL1 is not a 67-79 casting or real car. It is late model not vintage muscle — Mopar_Mafia
  • 67-79 Camaro would be RS, SS, Z-28, DZ 302 or RS/SS — Mopar_Mafia
  • Assuming that you would consider a 77-79 Camaro/Firebird Trash Can a muscle car? — Mopar_Mafia
  • Although, the 50th anniv Ford Ranchero has a V-8 engine, narrow casting not good for RLD type racing — Mopar_Mafia
  • 65 Chev Impala 396 Cu in with 375 HP L72 has a power to weight ratio of less than 10:1, technically is considered a muscle car — Mopar_Mafia
  • Yes...late 70's Birds and Camaros are OK — LeagueofSpeed
  • ...still NO on the Impala....El Camino...YES...Ranchero...NO — LeagueofSpeed
  • LO$ - gotcha just trying to help HWR find some suitable castings — Mopar_Mafia

Is this legal?

FORD IS AN AMERICAN MANUFACTURER

  • No kidding...the American Muscle Car was an era..mainly in the 60 and 70's...and I'm shocked you don't know what American Muscle means...you need to do some research — LeagueofSpeed
  • There are Chevelles, Novas, GTO, Firebirds, Camaros on the pegs at every WM, Target TrU — Mopar_Mafia

The only American Muscle Cars Ford Motor Company made would be the Mustang, Gran Torino and the Maverick...and to a lesser extent, the Fairlane and the Falcon. The  American Muscle era began in earnest in the 60's and lasted until the early 70's...during that time you could insure a station wagon...sedan...or Muscle Car for virtually the same price per year...gas was also very cheap...and there was no government regulations on horsepower...then gas prices skyrocketd compared to what was the norm...the cost to insure a powerful V8 Muscle Car also skyrocketed and the federal government put regulations and manufacturing laws in place that limited the amount of horsepower a factory V8 engine could produce...these 3 factors killed off one of the greatest eras of American motoring history...the era of American Muscle Cars.

  • Are you talking real cars or HW castings? There are Mercury Comets, Ford Fairlanes, Ford Thunderbolts to name a few. There are also Mercury Cyclones and I believe that there is a Talladega similar to the Superbird/Daytona style car. — Mopar_Mafia
  • There are also Ford AC Cobra and GT40 castings, would you allow those? They are clearly mid 60's — Mopar_Mafia
  • I wouldn't deny the Comets and the Merc castings...just believe there are better/faster castings to choose from. — LeagueofSpeed

The Hemispherical head was originally a Desoto design 331 Cu in V-8 engine. It increased to 354 cu in, and later to 392. When Chrysler got ahold of the design they developed the full potential of this powerhouse and it is still a legend. The famed 426 Hemi was feared throughout the land. This engine in basically stock factory components was capable of nearly 1200 HP with careful machining, tuning and nitromethane. Debuting in 1964 the 426 Hemi dominated every class of factory sponsored and sanctioned racing in North America, obsoleting even well designed 413 and 426 Max Wedge family of engines that were competitive and consistent.

Hopefully today's history lesson was informative and for your reading pleasure. The moral of the story is that the Mafia will be there and we're bringing HEMI's. Now, I'll respect you if you bring a 440 TNT or a Super Commando Six-Pak. However, they don't quite have the top end to hang with the elephant motor. If you're thinking small block you better just stay on the porch, your scenery never changes. If you're bringing a Ford might wanna stop by your local Mopar Performance dealer and join the Dodge rebellion. The Model A is 80 years old and Bob Glidden retired a long time ago. I know Captain Kangaroo had a couple of decent seasons for Generic Motors but everybody knows that Big Block Chevy valves float anything beyond 6 grand. Pontiac 400 is forty pounds heavier than every other engine. They can't rev past 5500 and never did make any power. Yes, I will suceed that the 1965 Pontiac Catalina 2+2 421 Super Duty to this day is still the fastest car 0-60 Motor Trend Magazine has ever tested at 3.9 sec. That is faster than a Viper and yes is faster than a Hell Cat 0-60.

A Buick 455 has weak valve train and oiling issues. It also isn't high revving but makes huge low end and mid range torque. If the Buick can hook up and get traction it is formidable competition. History shows it can't go round after round reliably. I would take a 455 Oldsmobile very seriously. The engine has a strong bottom end, huge low end and endless mid range torque. With aftermarket heads this engine is capable of 600 HP in stock form and can take some 6000 + rpm. All this being said, Dick Landy, Color me Gone, Sox & Martin, Don Garlits, Darrell Gwynn, Scott Geffrion, Darrell Alderman and Wayne County, these legends all had one thing in common = Their thangs had a HEMI.

You can go ahead and engrave my name on the trophy when you order it just to save time and expense and also to keep from getting everyone's hopes up. I trust you enjoyed a little friendly trash talking to hype the race for League of Speed. See you in lane 2.

  • That was Beautiful Brother...that was some Gear Head smack talk race fans!!! — LeagueofSpeed
  • Yea man! — Mopar_Mafia
  • Lovin’ it. — 41-14
  • I'm going mustang and small block with the 351c. It was the same basic design still being used in NASCAR up until a couple years ago. So I'm thinking its good enough to work for me. — NDeavers80

The Daytona Cobra and Shelby Cobra are legal castings this go round.

These Talledegas...yes are legal...and yes, the Gulf 76 was indeed on purpose.

...and I'm going to try and Mod one of these for some member of the Legion.
